Mainly, I love metal that flows, that rides, that takes you places. I don't like choppy thrash, I don't like grunting for the most part, I like continuity. I don't mind electronic facets.

I'm just so sick of wearing what I have out. I need new stuff.

AHAB
just sit back and take it all in. they shortened the intro for below the sun.

Someone posted this in another thread, the first minute and a half says a lot about what I like. Clean, hard-riding guitarwork, focus. I just can't listen to grunting, so the vocals do ruin it.

I almost feel like I'll never find anything as exploratory and epic as opeth, as grand and mysterious as Katatonia, as hard-driving as At the Gates, or as beautiful as Agalloch.

It's almost as though I've given up on there being better stuff out there. its sad.

Yeaaaaa, uhhh, the problem with that is I really hate the "wailing 80's style" singing worse than grunting. Honestly, I'd LOVE to be able to listen to Nevermore, BG, Kamelot, dragonforce, etc, but it makes me cringe. =(

I listen to basically the same style as you, minus a few things

EHEM! You will more than likely enjoy (and plz report back to me with your opinion)

Disillusion - Back to time of splendour
Alcest - Souvenirs d'un autre monde (shoegaze, agalloch style)
Evergrey - pretty much anything, but I suggest you start with in search of truth and recreation day.
umm

and finally (unless I edit this in the future)
The morningside - the wind, the trees, and the shadows of the past (THIS ESPECIALLY NEEDS YOUR ATTENTION)

also, is your screen name named after an album by some band who name escapes me at the moment?

You have good tastes mate.

Since you mentioned Katatonia i'll recommend Anathema's Judgement and Alternative 4. There are a few PT clones out there so you could check out Riverside. Also if you've never heard Steven Wilsons side project Blackfield i'd check them out.
The closest recommendation for Agalloch would be Drudkh so i'll recommend their album Blood in Our Wells.

I'm not huge on gothy stuff but Moonspells newest one is fantastic. Night Eternal is the title of it.
Also Draconian - Arcane Rain Fell is a great goth/doom album.

everygrey is a great rec...

edit: draconian is also full of win
