oh eat a bag-'o-dicks Owen... that peice has been around for years, and Steve is a virtuoso that can also play for the song... so what, anything with virtuoso playing is jerk-off material?? nevermind the fact that morse himself clearly doesn't take it that seriously as you seem to be by talking shit on it.. he named it "tumeni notes" after all, for fucks sake.
get over yourself, you're not the "grand arbiter of restraint". this type of playing has it's place, and Morse is one of the best at it.
"jerking off" musically is when there's literally "too many" notes than needed and they don't say anything.... Steve Morse, and this piece, are far from that.

Yeah man, I'll agree I probably could have, but when I'm being told to ' eat a bag-'o-dicks' straight out the box I'm not exactly going to be inclined to, no matter who it is - and I realise that flies in the face of most normal social protocol, but fuck it, I'm not here to take shit from someone just because they're 'well respected'.

I can listen to anything Steve puts out - be it country twang, acoustic journeys, or Dregs fusion infused jams. He is probably one of the few guitarists that I think can pull off anything he attempts with what looks like ease. I'm guessing from James's playing that he's had an influence there as well. I've been listening to his most recent Steve Morse Band disc "Out Standing in Their Field" at a few times a week since it arrived on my doorstep - good stuff.
As for calling anything Steve does "jerking off" well then I'm a bit speechless - when I listen to anything this man puts out I hear a story - one of the few instrumentalists that speak to me on that level.
