Steven Slate Drums or Slate Digital's Trigger?

I'm considering buying some software to program my drums, but I'm not sure on which one to choose. I have been reading this forum for months and I decided to try with Steven Slate samples, but I want to use it for live triggering with a laptop and in my records with programmed drums.

So the question is, if I program some MIDI rythms, could I replace it with the Slate Digital's Trigger? And if not, it's possible to use the Steven Slate Drums for live triggering?

That's right SSD is better for his situation, I misread and thought he was saying he wanted to replace recorded drums.

Thanks for the answers :)
And just another quick question. What I would need to connect the triggers (3 toms and bass drum) to my laptop, just a MIDI interface like this one?

I'm not sure about how it works. Maybe just plug the triggers to the interface's IN ports, and the USB cable to the laptop? Or I need another special cable?
