Steven Wilson Solo album!!!

Gavin Harrison is the drummer for PT. Lassie Hollie really has a hard on for focus in/out as a cut between shots. I don't mind him but I personally don't get the love for him. The foabp video clip was pretty awful iyam, but then again most video clips are pretty silly. The clip just added to the lyrical cheese. When it came out on the same day as the shooting in the US, you would have thought this would have brought them a fair bit of media attention given it's content. But it seemed to fade pretty quickly; it was similar to the case with Explosions in the Sky releasing their album "Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Die" a few days before September 11 in 2001, with linear notes saying "the plane will crash in a few days" referencing the artwork, not the terrorist attacks.

That's eerie......

Or how about how Nick Drake died around the same age as Heath Ledger, both of an accidental drug overdose from perscription drugs, such as anti depressants. Although Drakes deaths circumstance points moreso towards self infliction. What's odd is that Ledger had said numerous times he was a big fan and had expressed interested in playing him in a biopic. Another odd coincidence that the media alluded to earlier on then dropped it for Jack Nicholson "I told him so" which was pretty dodgy journalism, given Nicholson responded with I've never met him.

it's a shame heath died, his role as the joker really gained my respect for him as an actor.

TDK was definitely his best role.
Definitely.

i guess im the only one who thinks gavin is nothing that great

You only seem to make negative comments just for the sake of being negative so ya prolly. Regardless of what you say he's certain a great drummer.

You're obviously no expert on the matter, but just for shits, and giggles who do you find to be "great."

By the way here's a video of Gavin doing his thing since it seems like you've never seen or even heard him before.

Yep, you are.

Still, I guess it's nice to see someone has the gumption to go against all the gushing press by every major drumming publication, effusive praise by legends like Bill Bruford, two consecutive Modern Drummer poll wins and pretty much the entire progressive music listening world just for the sake of being critical.

You GO, boy!

I was at a friends house and he had a Modern Drummer magazine with the reader poll. I thought that I'd only know the obviously ones like Neil Peart, but sure enough, there was a whole section gushing over his technicality and skills. I found it kind of funny because I was already telling him how epic he was before he got the magazine and until he got it, he didn't agree.

Not to mention, the guy has put out one of the most universally critically acclaimed and best-selling series of musical instruction books and DVDs ever released.

Just a couple of noteworthy review snippets on the much lauded Rhythmic Illusions book/cd:

From Modern Drummer: "Gavin Harrison has written a veritable dissertation- and quite possibly the definitive document - on the infinite ways to manipulate rhythms and patterns on the drumset, and he has done so with a style and humour that will keep you fascinated to keep you learning more". ...."he shows ways to play basic beats that would amaze and confound the most advanced drummers in the world". "Rhythmic Illusions dispels the idea about old dogs and new tricks. Tricks? Here's ten thousand"

From the great Bill Bruford: "He has managed to distil the essence of, and codified the laws of, what is generally considered the next big development in kit drumming". ....."the most interesting material since the invention of the paradiddle".

Here's a link to Modern Drummer's artist profile and interview if you want to hear what they think about the guy.

Yeah, phil's right... "nothing great", indeed.

Even better than Peart? Still debatable.

Now I didn't say that! lol Neil is pretty much the drum God in my book.

Definitely in the same league, though.

Speaking of Neil, I'm listening to the mastered, drums-only track from "The Main Monkey Business" on his website as I'm typing this, very cool!

I'm sorry. Thought it was implied.
His drum solo at the concert was epic and then some and then some and then some and then some..... You get my point.

IMO Danny Carey is a better drummer than Neil. I've never heard anything from Neil that's amazed me.
