You intelligent music lovers do understand that a lot of the people here and at Opeth shows are metalheads right? Of course they don't like original thought-provoking music. As long as there are dark lyrics and balls to the wall guitar riffs and moshing and BLACK clothing, they'll be into it. SW and PT aren't that. I feel weird going to Opeth shows myself, considering they're the only metal band I like enough to see in person. I go to watch them perform their music, not act like a bunch of tough jackasses on stage. I feel Opeth's fanbase is dividing--there are those like myself who like it because of the music and therefore like other more "cerebral" music. And then there are those who are into because it makes them feel tough (since liking metal definitely increases ball and shaft size).

My second or third post here and I'm picking a fight with the masses.

As for Insurgentes, from what I've heard, I really like it. I'm not big on the drone noise stuff, but some of the songwriting is pure SW brilliance. Collecting Space is easily one of the best tracks. He's a very versatile musician and I'm fortunate to have gotten into PT and SW (and eventually Opeth). This album though is definitely a grower; it's gonna take at least ten good listens for me to really *get it*.

agreed with the post above, sort of. i like metal for the music, not for the image (which, imo, is pretty awful ). i too feel out of place at metal concerts, but i'd much rather that to the alternative. i'm no metal head... i very much enjoy early porcupine tree. i'll go ahead and state the cliché that i'm also into every genre that has something to offer. metal, rock, prog, jazz, classical, trip-hop, you name it.

i'm into the genre that steven wilson is creating music in, i'm just not into steven wilson anymore. he's to much, and this iPod/xbox shit is borderline pathetic. lol, unbelievable the shit fanboys will some up with to defend themselves.
