Oh yeah man i have no problem paying (plus i never mention free), id just download movies (illegally) if i didn't want to pay for them.

There's great cult and B-series movies there, as well as some good other stuff wich are out of copyright for various reasons.
It's different from that hollywood crap we're used to.
And there's a cool documentary entitled "Before the music dies" wich is worth watching, wich is in the public domain (or offered for free in some way, check out their site). Not the greatest doc, but it has it's moment. I also think they can send you the DVD for like 3$ on their MySpace page.
the reason the film industry's revenues increased during these times are many... introduction of new formats, like blu-ray, that was tired to a popular gaming system (PS3 and HDTV, and that extra money that people who no longer were spending on music (since music is so easy and fast to download for free, illegally) are two of the big ones.
it's not some magical "benefit" of illegal movie downloading that somehow benefited the movie industry.... so there is no "altruistic" justification for illegally downloading/streaming movies; "oh i'm just helping out the industry by not paying for the films i download, i'm just looking out after THEIR best interest!!". no, you can't claim some high ground in downloading movies.
yes, the movie industry has benefited from the success of a HDTVs, Blu-Ray, and consumer dollars shifted from music... but this does NOT mean they are not feeling the crunch of illegal downloads... they are. it's just taking longer to catch up to the consumer $ shifted their way from music and via DVD and blu-ray sales spurred by new technology and to become obvious... but as time goes, the damage being done now, and that yet to be done will accumulate and start to show.
this is EXACTLY akin to the Metallica Effect; the backlash from no one understanding the reasons why Metallilca sued Napster. everyone freaked out and said.. "oh it's not hurting, and metallica is rich.. FUCK METALLICA AND FUCK THE MUSIC INDUSTRY".... now i think it's clear that Metallica was right, it damned sure was causing damage. and people were too shortsighted to see that Metallica was not just trying to help themselves. no, their fight was for the little bands who ultimately will never have the opportunity to ever become as big as they did, whether they consciously thought of it like that or not.
so it may take a few more years, but if things go unchecked it will start to undeniably show in the movie industry as well... it's that simple.
anyone who cannot see this as clear as day is just hopeless.
