Would someone please tell me what straight edge ethics, 12 step philosophy (theology?) Pop psychology and christian family values has to do with rock n' roll, let alone metal?:yell:

Nothing, it just gives fans of a scene a feeling of identity and belonging (at least in the case of straight edge).

sure, but if there are themes particular to "troo" metal then metal is just a hand-me-down snotrag.

Yeah, but the point is that it's OUR hand-me-down snotrag! Jesus freaks and weak ass sheeple of all varieties have their own musical anthems that more appropriately fit their
self hating beliefs.

oh god the imminent danger of something like that is a good enough reason to eschew just about any sort of unpopular lifestyle. Idiot.

Yeah, like that special, warm glowing feeling of self worth and acceptance twelve redline, straight edge pussies out here in Az got when they beat a man in his fifties with brass knuckles until one of his eyes popped out. Btw, that inciddent was instrumental in closing the mason jar-the best metal club in phoenix.nothin' like a bunch of goddamned,D.E.A. Brownshirt cowards to ruin everyone's day.:hotjump:

Hey buddy. I'm from Phoenix! I used to go to the Mason Jar all the time. I remember hearing about that incident but I didn't know it involved straight edge people. I wonder why they beat him up. Maybe he was smoking a cigarette.

Hail fellow Az victim-LOL!

Regarding the Mason Jar inciddent, I heard a couple of different reports. One was that they just beat him down because he was an old guy who liked metal. The other suggested that he inadvertantly bumped into a straight edge girl and her piece of shit boyfriend took umbrage to it, so they all jumped him.

I dunno-all I know is that they're a bunch of fuckin' pussy cowards for doing it. 12 chickenshits, 24 brass knuckled fists-and not a testicle between them.

Exactly. And just how does one go about turning sobriety into a fucking socio-political movement in the first place-Sheesh!

The Jar's closed? I guess it's no big deal. The place turned to shit after Franco sold it. The two guys who ran it were dicks. At least they were the few shows I went to while they were there.

The Sad reality is that there are no really good venues out here at all for metal. Metal Devestation is okay, I guess.

The fact that it can even be conceived as such is the real shame. That those who don't drink are the "rebels."

Well, if you ask me, everyone should just convert to Islam. ;)

LOL!

As smug and purist as it sounds,Rock was meant to be sexual, visceral, raw, sensual and unforgivably rebellious; Anything else is just a weak ass sermon growled out over a few power chords.

What Acid Bather just said id true.

The entire idea of certain specific philosophies about different types of music is a load of shit. Here are some examples of the sheer stupidity of having a set Ideology about heavy metal:

My friend said that I'm not metal because I think rationally. I laughed when he said that, but he was comletely serious.

I was having a discussion with him and a few other people, about Bush and politics, and nobody knew what they were talking about, and some kid started making fun of me because I keep the U.S. Constitution on my favorite places on AOL. And I explained why, and it was because I like to quote powerful texts and documents to support my arguments on forums and stuff. He called me a queer because I post on forums. (That doesnt even make sense.)

I was made fun of for listening to metal, and appreciating things in nature that invoke a good aura, rather than a dark, evil aura. Thats why Goths piss me off.

This afternoon, I was sitting in school transcribing a classical piece from piano to guitar and bass, and another metalhead called me queer because I like classical music.

I was made fun of for being a thinker.

I was made fun of for believing in the existence of Atlantis.

These are all examples of the idea of this thread, the retartedness of set musical philosophies. I like Metal that integrates Art and classical music into the driving power and raw energy of metal. Other metalheads by me can't accept that, because I don't fit the "stereotype" metalhead.
