Styx - Renegade

Oh hell yeah.

Just makes me think that so many bands these days don't put enough importance into vocal production. Killer vocals on that song...

Great fucking song first off. Of course in this forum, only old bastards like me probably appreciate it! :)

Damn straight - old guys represent! (I can't believe I just typed that as I'm far too old to ever say such a statement).

Great song - one of the fond memories of early explorations into my older brothers record collection (the foundation of my musical life) involved Styx. While not quite as memorable as "The Grand Illusion" to me, "Pieces of Eight" is still right up there in my early developmental music appreciation class I held each afternoon as I snuck into my brothers room to steal 12" records from his collection (I'd always return them the next day as I cycled out a next great rock record), but that's how I became interested in music - I was about 11 when "Pieces of Eight" was released.

I used to jam tons of Savatage. I caught shit for it from a few asswipes... who could go suck a dick... cuz Savatage is badass.

yea I LOVE thick layered vocal mixes like that. And I almost like the fact that they don't do it much in popular music anymore, it makes the old stuff THAT much better by comparison :loco:

I'm certainly too young to have lived through that era (I'm 24), but the stuff from back then is just sooo easy to love! much more emphasis was put on great song-writing.

And you really gotta respect the engineers from back then, not being able to work with all the digital "crutches" we take for granted these days. I can only imagine how much fun (and how stressful) it must've been to ride faders, pan pots, etc, in real time during the final mixdown.

I'm a young guy and just discovered randomly Styx a few days ago on german radio, and thought, even if the song was kind of a balad, "hey that sounds quite good for something that's on radio". Any song recommendations to dig a little ?

Awesome song.

I always thought the guitar riff in Miss America was pretty cool...

Here's a couple more for LeSedna:

I'm old enough that I should know Styx but the only one I remember was Mr Roboto... Going to check out these recommendations for sure.
