well, i finally have enough money to get a guitar & amp, but really have absolutely no idea what i should get. I have around $600..any help is much appreciated. Also, i've never really played before.

If you havent played before, you should begin on an acoustic guitar. Try Yamaha and Honner.

Even better, get a classical guitar.

If you listen to more acoustic/classical guitar music than electric guitar, get the acoustic. Otherwise, get the electric. Playing metal on an acoustic guitar is about as far from fun as you can get.

If I had $600 to spend on a guitar and amp, I'd probably get an Ibanez RG570 ($300-400) and Line6 POD ($150-200), but that's just me.

i think i'm gonna get an Ibanez gsa60..dunno about the amp yet. That rg570 is like $560 john dee..where'd u get your price

I got my near-mint RG570 CT in the $300 range off ebay. Search for "RG 570" and "RG570" (no space) if you want to see what used ones go for. If you decide to buy from the store, you can almost certainly negotitiate a lower price.

music123.com has RG570's for $369 right now. They were $299 not too long ago. I think the 500-series is being discontinued in 2003 and being "replaced" by more expensive Prestige-series guitars, so you'll probably be able to find RG570's much cheaper than you normally would.
