Sunn 0))) question

It is similar, a bit more 'airy', a bit more sparse in the arrangements. It doesn't fall on you like a 10 ton slab of depression and anguish like FotB does, it is more along the lines of a torture with a thousand needles if you catch my drift. It is difficult to describe

People actually like Sunn0))? I remember buying that Flight of the Behemoth album blindly at the record store a year and a half back. Upon first listen, I started wondering when the "motorcycle engine" intro would stop... after about 15 minutes, I realized that it was the actual music :( . I think Merzbow remixed one or two of the tracks on it and it sounded pretty awesome, but I don't know... I traded it away quickly afterwards because those tracks with just the guitar and bass kinda made me really really angry.

i'm not sure i can get into sunn0))) aesthetically, but on a music geek level, i can.
i haven't really given them a proper try, though. i have a similar deal with the earth stuff. some of it is ultra cool, and some of it i'm like, 'okay... come on, do something...' but it's good for soaking in. i think the fast-paced modern life has screwed with my head too much to relax and enjoy it. maybe i just need to get shitfaced and revel in it. seeing the band live would probably also give a new respect/appreciation for them (sunn0))) i mean ), what with the bowel wrenching and all.

george just told me that sunn is playing in philly the same day of the infidel? / castro!, kayo dot etc. show! what a bummer. not only because i'd like to see them, but because we might lose some audience. but what can you do? i still can't wait. it'll be our first show in like a year!

Okay. In addition to the massive Candlemass set, I will play something off white... for Toby tomorrow.

White1 leaves total drone country and expands its sound a little. "Gates of Ballard" even features some drums machines, and a discernible riff, of sorts. Other differences include the use of human vocal chords, of which FotB, 00 and Grimm Robe were devoid.
Cope's speaking voice is superb and adds a touch of humour and drama to "My Wall". In all I'd agree it's a little weaker than their previous work, but simply because it is less "absolute" and less evocative. It's more straight-up "musical". I mean, up 'til White, I listened to Sunn every time I wished for utter annihilation. Sit back, hit the off switch and melt away. I wouldn't listen to White for the same reasons.

I love Sunn, they make me feel so insignificant :)
