Superior 2.0 just arrived ...

Are the cymbals close-miced or do you get them in an overhead configuration.... or is it all tweakable?

I think my issue with the cymbals is just that they have too much of a close-mic sound and not enough actual ambience and crossover.

Sounds pretty poor to me (relatively speaking). I'm hardly the best mix engineer, but unless these were mixed badly then they don't hold a candle to some of the previous DFHS clips I have heard. Listen to these back to back with some of Bulbs stuff (even on crappy myspace) and Bulbs DFHS stuff tears this apart- the kick especially.

I'd love a direct comparison of the same track, one with DFHS, one with S2.0 and see what comes up.

The only thing that currently has me gassing for S2.0 over DFHS is the Sonalkis plugs. Is it really worth it though, just for them? I'm certainly going to wait for more clips before shelling out for S2.0.

Does the upgrade, run off DFHS 1 somehow? Do I get less with the upgrade, rather than buying full price version? The reason is, my original copy of DFHS is gone, and I don't have the original installed anymore. Since I am a registered user, I can get the upgrade cheaper.

Acle and Browne's own old DFHS clips tear Bulb's apart, and are better than these in some aspects.

That said, and I should've prefaced this, both guys said they only used a tiny bit of comp on the room mics and then a tiny eq on the kick/snare - minimal amount of processing, and by no means a final product.

http://www.myspace.com/4dsounds - that's Acle's production page, and everything on it was DFHS cymbals/toms with a kick and snare from BFD

The snare in the Elements clip, though.... fuck! That thing KILLS, and with only minimal processing!

It's a completely new engine/interface so doesn't run off DFHS 1. There's no difference in the packages with the upgrade...it's just a different license/price.

If your copy of DFHS 1 is registered and authorised on the toontrack site it should then give you the auth code for S2.0.

Can you really mix/match individual pieces of kit from previous version, both DFHS and EZXs? It would be peeerfect if I could slap another splash or two in there from the EZDFH/DFHS kits!

Yes, sir. You really can.

That is one very cool feature of S2 (IMHO).

That means the money you have spent on their past/present products will still be totally useable - in addition to having the new and improved Superior unit.

Take care.

I wanted to give you an idea of what you can do, if you choose.

Just now I created a N.Y Avatar Kit with:

- 12" Pearl from the Claustrophobic EZX

- Cake Pan from the Twisted EZX

- Funny Stuff from the Twisted EZX

- Splash 2 from the DFH EZX

As you can see along the right hand side of the GUI - all of those additional X-Pads that I brought into the kit are tweak-able. (FWIW)
But that is just an idea of what you can do.

RTFO! Man, my studio pc and DFHS box were stolen, along with my precious Gibson Flying V, while I was out on tour. And to think, I didn't want to take the guitar on the road for fear of it getting ripped off! I've been waiting for a long time for this!

MINE!

I know absolutely nothing about these programs, and I've never used a program like this before, but I seriously need to buy one. I think I'm gonna buy EZDrummer and DFH soon, these things sound amazing for pre-programmed stuff!

The only thing I don't get is the groove thing. I need to make my own original drum tracks though, so I don't know how it works. Are there any sort of trial versions of it I can try?

I really hate the kicks in the DFH expansion for EZD, they're just too, I dunno, splatty for me and they ring out too long. I'm honestly probably gonna go with XLN Addictive Drums, cuz Superior 2.0 looks like just a bit too much of a handful for my modest needs. And I don't really know what the difference between grooves and loops is, so I guess I'd appreciate some clarification on that as well.

Why not BFD2? Just the money, or something else?

Kick and snare don't sound very expressive to me.

All the Meshuggah-type guys just destroy their drums with massive, massive compression. Chances are those bear no resemblance whatsoever to the dry sounds.

The demos on the Toontrack site sound quite nice.

Hey Guys. here's a 1:30 sec sample I've had on my computer for a few weeks using DFHS 2.0

Only used the Sonalksis plug-ins on this. No post work, tried to do as many cymbals as possible and some hihats and did many tom hits at the end. This is ONLY one sample (so many variations with 2.0) :kickass:

i have bfd2 and i can honestly say i dont like it at all. It is not in anyway good at all for metal productions. There is i think 1 snare that i really liked that had enough crack. none of the kicks were really that good to me. the cymbals were ok though.
