Superior 2.0 vs Drumkit From Hell Superior

I had a problem with the cymbals. There is a real click when the stick hits and just sounds like pop or a bad crossfade clicking in the mix. Maybe I'm just doing something totally wrong with them. I used a midi file from guitar pro 5 and yea the cymbals just came out :loco:

But i think "Drumkit From Hell Superior", that first one, far way better than any other sample package.. it's more balanced beetween pros. and cons.

What Broken81 said is true, and normaly happen when the sample is too processed....

Drummer 2.0 has a very good sound... but you need to do a tought job to make everything sounding cool.

It's not impossible make anything sounding good..... but some tools needs more "work demand" than others...

Personally I think S2.0 is a bit of a money-making gimmick. I mean, do people claim that drums on an album recorded in 2008 sound better than stuff from 2002-3 (or whenever DKFH was relased) just by virtue of time passing?! It's not even as if there were any flaws with the software operation that needed updating or improving. Rerecord the drums using the same mics/preamps etc, slap on a flashier GUI and some additional plugins and charge £180 all over again- fucking goldmine!

The original DKFH drums were recorded well and the software worked. I haven't heard anything from S2.0 that made me go- 'whoa that sounds better'.

S2.0 is completely different drums and mics (and room) to DFHS, and has many different options and room mics etc. Plus the GUI is a SERIOUS overhaul which really takes the product up a notch and IMO puts it way in front of anything else in the competition.

I think as far as sounds go, its subjective as it can depend what you need them for, but considering you can integrate almost anything else toontrack have made in there, and considering the small upgrade charge I think its a great deal.

I own S2.0 and I really couldn't get my arms around it. I tried! But in the end, it's just not my thing. I don't want to spend all my resources on drum tracks just to get the drums to sound decent. I think the included effects are a complete joke.

The notion that the built-in effects in S2.0 are a joke is nonsense. Some recent Bulb stuff is the reductio ad absurdum to that claim. The person tweaking them determines whether the final product is usable or not.

The upgrade price from DFHS to S2.0 is a gift. If they were only trying to make a quick buck without improving the product, they really failed miserably.

Here's something someone posted on the Toontrack forum about getting more bottom end on the kick for the OP.

"I finally got some bottom end on the kick. I had to remove the bottom end from the outside mic and set the "muscle" eq on the inside and sub mics. I then had to remove the kick from the close ambience mics, and now it sounds like a normal kick." - PW

It's nonsense to think Bulb is ONLY using the internal FX within S2.0. Although Bulb has been able to attain good sounds from 2.0, even he has been "on the fence" weither to use 2.0 or continue to use the original Superior. I actually enjoyed his original Superior sounds much more than his 2.0. In my opinion, Splat88 has gotten 2.0 to sound the best I've heard yet, although he attained the sound he got through a LOT of processing outside of 2.0.

My comments are of course relative to "good sounding metal drum sounds". I think the default 2.0 kit pieces actually sound pretty good for other genres of music other than metal.

Yeah, but the effects are more of a marketing gimmick for the product. Anyone serious about effects would add their own anyway.

Yep, I totally agree. I was just dissapointed because 2.0 could have been incredible with the right built-in tools. Sigh...

I got a used DFHS some time ago for cheap, and this thread is making me think I should stick with it and not update to superior 2.0. What's your opinion? Haven't even installed it yet BTW, as this laptop only has 1gb ram, and I don't think DFHS would run too well with this. Now that I got my Macbook Pro, I'm going to start using it.

I use both at the same time.. or I guess more accurately, I use Superior 2's way way way way better interface, snares, and cymbals, and then replace the kick (using X-drum) with the kick from the original Superior and add in a bell ride. Sounds far better than anything I could get out of either package individually.

I absolutely HATE the Superior 2.0 kicks. I am not quite sure what it is with them but they are just very odd sounding to me in metal. I also am not fond of the overheads either so I just use DFHS cymbals and kicks and use Superior 2's toms and and snares and it seems to be the perfect blend.

I've spent a lot of time on both recently. The SD2.0 kick has a lot of 'splat' which can be annoying but the snares, toms and cymbals are awesome (although none of the rides are that good for metal)

and I'm still having trouble with cymbal chokes

I enjoy everything about S2.0, but I wish there were more splash cymbals. EZdrummer DFH had a good variety of splashes, but the chinas sucked. Now the chinas are great, and the hats are excellent, but no splashes...
