Well lately Ive been starting to learn to sweep and found this video to be helpful

I just have a probably with muting the strings, Can someone explain to me how to mute them?

Also, does anyone have a video similar to this that could be helpful?

Tips would also be appreciated on how to start developing with sweeping

thanks

In my experience it´s more of a playing clean thing than muting the strings thing. Practice alot at a really slow tempo (slow enough for you to make zero mistakes and no noise) and gradually speed up when your technique is getting better.

As for muting, I keep my picking hand rested on the bridge in a way so that if I accidently make some noise I just angle my hand more towards the strings and that way mute them.

Also: You shouldn´t only play those 2-3string sweeps, play 5-6 string sweeps as well. Here´s one I´ve been playing as practice lately

Code:

Thats helped me great man, Im getting pretty good at this

thanks

You also shouldn't keep much of the actually pick hitting the string.
The less pick the less noise you will make as well you'll have your thumb to mute the strings sweeping downwards.
But this is hard to get used to so it'll take some time to get down.

If you're a begginer, you should start out with 3 strings sweeps, instead of 5 strings.. Something like
------12-15p12------
----13--------13----
--12------------12-- .. Something like that, and then play it really slow. Like Majesty said. And just keep practicing :).. I don't mute the strings eather :p

I could never learn how to sweep, no exercises really helped me. But then again I don't really want to learn anyway.

practice with a metronome, slow and clean and you'll build speed, everyone wants to try and play it balls out fast, but you'll sound sloppy and bad

to clean up the sound some players use the neck pickup for a warmer tone and it can help hide the sloppiness and extra string ringing

alot of pros also use a hair band/sock/piece of fabric around the first-fifth fret to prevent the strings from ringing out on recordings , try practicing with a clean setting, distortion is a master at hiding sloppy playing but you'll develop bad technique

I'll throw a video up sometime soon with some sweeping lessons and tricks

some positions may require you to "roll" your fingers from string to string after barring 2 notes consecutively, , always take the last finger off when you move on to the next one, you're essentially playing a chord however youre fingers must be removed after each not is playing to prevent ringing out , hope that all made sense, any questions pm me and id be more than happy to help

^ Pretty much what he said, but in response to what you said about "muting" the strings, generally you mute the strings by lifting up your frethand fingers as the notes are being played to cease the vibration of the string. Some people will just use their picking hand, but Ive never figured out how that works.
