He treats customer's like shit, he makes fake copies of guitars in his basement, his "heel from hell" is a fucking joke, and he's probably one of the sleaziest people you'll ever meet.
Stories - "I really had no intention of buying a guitar from Ed Roman. Just the same, I did my homework before going out and talked to a few online shops in order to get the best price for a new Dillion Mosrite shipped with a hardcase. Why not give them the benefit of the doubt? The best deal I found was Steve's Music offering them for $500 bucks shipped with a hardshell case. Ok, I figure I could check out roman's shop and give them a chance. It's nice to be able to handle a guitar before you commit. I call before I get out there and some ass swears up and down that he can give me that deal. I am dying to haggle with these guys, but he makes it easy (it seems) and says that they won't have a problem giving me that price. Ok, so when I am out there one afternoon I stop by their shop. The place is like a morgue. There were at least 8 people on staff doing absolutely nothing and there were some of the gaudiest guitars you have ever seen strewn about as ornaments. I find the Dillion section (right next to their extensive line of Jay Tursers) and I plug a couple in. They sound pretty good, but all had one or two glaring flaws. The bigsby on one is solid, but the nut is loose. I tell them I am interested in buying it, but they have to fix the nut and reglue it. Sure, no problem... Everything seems totally cool. I am almost beginning to think that all the crap about this guy may be wrong (I am dealing with some floor manager as the fugly leprechaun is in his lair).
Anyhow, they fix the nut and dig up a case that is too small for the guitar. The floor manager tries to tell me it's fine, but it isn't. He concedes and goes to find another hardshell case. He comes back with a good case and I give him the "straight poop" on what I was quoted over the phone just days before. He says he has to go check with the billy goat under the bridge before he can commit to any price.
Anyhow, before going he asks how I intend to pay. Now, mind you, I am in vegas and I have about a grand in $100 dollar bills in my pocket. Once the deal started feeling fishy (especially with the case he tried to push off onto me and the fact that they wanted to ship it to me instead of me walking out with the deal I came for) I decided that if this transaction was going down, it was gonna be on my credit card where I could claim foul if need be for any reason whatsoever. I tell him I would be using my American Express and he says that there would be an additional 5% upcharge because of the fees involved. "Fees? That's the price of doing business," I say. He scampers off to roman's office to find out what to do. He comes back with this nonsense about how the case is really worth a lot of money . He says it's worth $180 bucks. Mind you, this case was constructed just like the $50 dollar Chinese hardshell case I bought from GC not long ago. I cry foul and call him on his bullshit. I totally rag him down on the case story and he says, "I guess you're an expert on cases?"
At this point, I just laughed at the guy and walked out.
It was fun! Fuck you Ed! Fuck you floor manager! You must he really proud to have to grovel to the troll on how to haggle the price of Korean planks.
I highly encourage one and all to call their shop. Haggle with these assholes. If you are going to vegas, stop in and haggle some more. Waste their time and walk out the door because they will not fail in exposing themselves for shitty business people. It's better than the fucking Batman ride at Six Flags.
So, if you got a story spill the beans. This guy and his shills really suck."
"Hard to believe...but even people as far away as Hong Kong have horror stories about Ed Roman
"Never buy anything from Ed Roman. This guy is a real fucking cheating bastard. I wanted a white single coil cover plate for my Steinbeger so I asked a friend of mine in L.A. to call up the guy. Ed Roman has a lot of Steinberger spare parts. He said he had some in stock and asked for $400 dollars. Alright, I thought, it would be a one off thing as I am switching to single coil. I am not spending this kind of money every month. So I told my friend to go ahead with the purchase. My friend paid the money over via his credit card and they sent the face plate over to my friend in L.A. They send him a black one when he asked for white one. My friend called him asking for a replacement. That fucking Ed Roman would have none of it. My friend drove all the way over to L.Vagas to reason with him. My friend said he requested for a white face plate and he wanted a replacement or he wanted the money back. I think it is fair, right? I wanted a white one and they sent a black one over, they are liable to replace it or give the money back. Am I right on that? That bastard then told my friend that they did not have any white ones and if they had they would have charged him double. What kind of business is this guy running? How can you cheat people like that? That happened in America, not in Istanbul!! If you don't have a white one, just say so. How can you lure people into paying and then turn round and said you don't have a white one, no money back, no replacement."
There you have it...yet ANOTHER horrible experience with Ed Roman"
