huh I just read T1 muthafucka and thought it would be something about the first terminator movie! BIG disapointment
T1 Lines. Initially named after "Transmission -- Level 1" or Trunk 1, these lines are increasingly popular among small and mid-size business customers. A T1 line is a fiber-optic cable that can carry up to 24 digitalized voice channels and move data at up to 1.544 megabits per second. That’s about 60 times as fast as a residential telephone line, according to providers. To carry data, it requires the use of a router. For many small and fast-growing businesses, a T1 line can handle the broadband needs of the entire office.
Cost: Due to increased competition, T1 lines have come down in price, with a leased line now running between $250 and $500 a month for service. T1 lines are offered by telcoms, Internet service providers, and others. Online sites such as Broadbandbuyer.com offer a way to comparison-shop for prices and service.
In terms of the amount of drop-outs you get, perhaps, but speed-wise no, unless electrons here are slower than the rest of the world (which may well be possible, since everything else is).
Go to your ISP's website, check out the speed of the plan you're on. See if it's consistent with what you metered. If not, ring your ISP, ask them what's going on.
Congrats, must feel like a hell of an improvement! I'd love to have a consistent line. I've got a 24/1 DSL deal, which in practice tops out around 16/1, gets frequent drop-outs, customer service is absolute shit (I once had to convince the tech support guy that the problem was on their side, not mine, and only after 20 minutes of arguing he agreed to check it and boom, he noticed the whole part of the city was down) and the speed waves up and down constantly.
And I don't need faster internet... for now. Maybe upload, donwload is just fine.
Hey Dan/Ermz - just to let you know the length of cable going from your homes port to the router itself can cause devasting effects on your speed. You need to use the shortest cable possible ideally. I've seen cases where peoples speed has literally halfed because of poor quality or lengthy cable.
I get around 6meg down and 1 meg up here- plenty for my needs for now. A shit I give not about speeds- as long as the connection is reliable with no packet loss or choking its good enough for me to be honest. Especially with no download caps, and no dips at peak times. And for £7.34 PM
This tells me one thing, and I'm sure Ermz will agree: Australia je zajebana!
