Take a ride in my ROFL copter....

I don't say it, just curious since there's someone WHO DOES.....

dundundunnnnnnn
But the "lol" means "laughing out loud", and if you're saying "lol" than you're too busy saying lol to actually be laughing out loud, which would make you a hypocrite. No one likes a hypocrite.

What about saying it in a jovial manner? Who's to say what a laugh sound should sound like?

a simple "HA!" would be considered a laugh (if not done sarcastically, a la Edna Krabappel), so would not a "LAWL!" elicit the same?

I suppose it can, but usually laughing out loud implies more than a giggle or one word burst of laughter. In any case, saying "ROFL" definitely implies a hypocrite, because "ROFL" implies rolling on the floor laughing hysterically, and if you're in that state you wouldn't be in the mind set to remember to say "ROFL" unless you were pretending and being a hypocrite.

"ROFL" actually means I'd get up and roll on the floor to this if I wasn't too busy trying to tell you I found it that funny.
