TEH WORLD CUP

Netherlands should play Karate or judo instead of football :)
I always say Iker Casillas is the best goalkeeper, he proved me right yesterday. What a team Spain has ! I was extremely happy yesterday, all the teams i rooted for this world cup lost, except for this one :D

It's never an excuse, but the ref killed the match really, whistling for every single minor fault.

Our 3rd final and we lost again, such a shame.. The goal was disputable as well.

Ah well, all things aside, the best team won, I have to admit.

what? the goal was disputable? no way man, watch it again he's not offside ;)
I think the ref wasn't good at all, he should have kicked out Roben, Van Bomel too. But he was to gentle I think, but if he did kick them out, the match would be ruined. Really dirty playing by the Netherlanders, what a shame.
Iker Casillas was the savior as he has always been with Real Madrid, my fav goal keepah ov all ze time.
MadTinus, vice world champion isn't bad at all mate !! but too bad for the old peeps who have witnessed such failure three times (1972/76 and 2010?)

nah, lucky you you had only one player kicked out of the field... could have been even 3... after an awesome campaing, netherlands did their worst in the final game, on the opposite side, after a mediocre campaing, spain did their best in the final.

The pass that lead to the goal was not offside, but the pass before that, which was blocked by Van der Vaart, Iniesta was offside. Also, the goalkick that was admitted to Spain that eventually lead to the goal, should have been a corner kick for Holland, Sneijder's shot was heavily deflected by a Spanish player AND touched by Casillas, it was SO obvious. So yeah, the goal was disputable.

The ref was bad indeed, but you're right about De Jong and Van Bommel, they were lucky they were not sent off.

(1974, 1978 and 2010)

the referee will say a player is offside when he touches the ball in an offside position or if he is clearly fighting for it against another player, if he doesn't then the referee will let the play continue, this was exactly iniesta's situation, and when he touches the ball he was already on a right position. About the corner kick, well, that was simply another play, lets see it for what it is, the goal play was kinda messy but legit nonetheless.

The offside rule is sensitive to interpretation. Iniesta initially got passed the ball in an offside position, the ball was intended for him and he was involved in the play, yet the pass was blocked by Van der Vaart, you could say Iniesta and Van der Vaart were fighting for the ball in that situation. If you show the situation to 10 referrees, some will say it's offside, others won't.

And if the corner kick was admitted like it should, the goal would not have happened the way it did. So from a Dutch perspective, I'm sure you'll understand it leaves somewhat of a bitter taste ;) It's always bad if a ref influences a match to such an extent as Webb did. I'm sure this was the last 'big' final he did.

But it's all ifs and unlesses after all.

It's nice that Spain finally won some prizes that justify their qualities, such a shame they had to do it against Holland ;)

look at it this way man : if they didn't have a dirty playing last night, they would play with 11 players till the end, consequently, they wouldn't have gaps which led to a gaol.

Dirty playing or not, admitting the goal kick instead of the corner kick was a plain mistake which unfortunately had fatal consequences for NL..

I think we all agree that Webb didn't do a very good job yesterday and Spain won the title deservedly.
