Tell me something about the following places

SF: insanely expensive rent, way too many homeless people, great food and scenery, close to practically every climate (ocean, forest, desert, snow, etc), reasonable public transport, decent local music scene & lots of cultural events (art/movies/etc).

I prefer to live in the east bay (berkeley/oakland) to SF by a long-shot, but it's good to have the city there. think of SF as a dirtier version of Seattle - it's really similar in a lot of ways both culturally and geographically.

Chapel Hill is a cool college town I think, that's where my parents met. And I used to live around there when I was real young. I visit it every Christmas.
I'm originally from the Raleigh area, but then had to move down south.

my aunt lives in CH. what AJV says is true - it's very charming. probably dies in the summer when the students leave, but that's true of most small college towns. lots of great bands from there, too.

Hey everyone. I lurk here a lot because it's an entertaining board (sorry if it creeps you out). I go to school in Durham, NC and I'll probably go to college in Chapel Hill next fall. It's a very nice college town and there are some good music venues there. Just thought I'd chip in.

By the way, great work Kayo Dot, COTE is amazing. :)

ok for seriously

new haven is an okay town, it's got some nice music stuff, but my understanding is that the venue i went to the most closed in recent years (the Tune Inn). toad's place gets some pretty good bands, though. the Yale aspect means it's got a lot of college-towny cultural stuff, vegetarian restaurants, the best pizza in the world outside NYC, and a culture all its own. plus, the absolute best thing about New Haven is that you can hop a $13 train to NYC (takes about 2 hours) so you can go there just for the day on a saturday, or easily for a weekend. if you live there, you should go to NYC monthly at least.

massachusetts is different depending on where you go, but i'm positively inclined toward it.

ohh well, boston rules. tons of great food, good atmosphere, feels pretty safe, not especially dirty, not a lot of race problems, colleges, arts, $10 bus ride to NYC, etc.

the public transit sucks, but you don't NEED a car (like you would in NH or Chapel Hill or Berkeley). things closing early (1-2am) sucks. still decent, though.
