I'd like to know your honest opinions about this guitarist. Don't pay any attention to the song I'm only talking about his technique. Be completely honest, I need your opinions to help settle a disagreement I have with a friend of mine.

He kicks my ass atleast but that doesn't change this:

He is a bit sloppy.

However, he seems very relaxed atleast and that is a big plus, I think the sloppiness might go away soon, he does seem to have the potential to become really really good.

He's not bad at all, like others have said he's a bit sloppy and Zack beat me to the timing issues between his hands but other than that he could get quite good if he works on those. Oh and he looks like Tom Green without the beard

IDK couldn't watch very much of it, bored me to tears. Arm seems pretty stiff to me and I don't see much wrist movement. Then again, I suck.

He has some technical skill (although it could stand a great deal of refinement), but he has no "feel" to speak of and I didn't hear one microsecond of tasteful phrasing in that whole mess.

Sloppy as hell, and boring for that matter.
(not that im not sloppy.)

Thanks for replying guys. I pretty much agree with all of you.
This guitarist is actually a friend of mine and I was trying to explain to him that his technique needs more work to sound right. The problem is that he doesn't see it, he thinks that he plays really good. That's why in my opinion there's not much potential to improve. How can you improve something when you can understand you're doing it wrong?

Stiff wrist... it looks bizzare. He's probaby better than me though so I can't really complain.

Well it's HIS playing, if he's okay with it... why bother? If he doesn't ask for advice... (Unless he's in your band...)

He'll eventually agree on his shortcomings if his stuff reaches a wider audience or he's working with professional engineers/producers who'll be telling him that his performance is lacklustre.

So, jut give it some time. Even Steve Vai COMPLETELY changed his picking technique after decades of playing with the biggest cats in rock and putting out solo records...
