But Dragonlord has lots of atmospheric keyboards which creates very dark and moody metal. Doesn't that make it 'black'?

I haven't heard Dragonlord,but i will go now and get some,it sounds quite dandy from your reviews.

If you want the exact definitions ask goreripper,he seems to know em all quite well. Black metal originated from thrash and speed metal i beilive, the keyboards came into it later on.

wheras death metal has always just been death metal.

Not all death metal is poo...there are a number of great death metal bands.

Opeth for a start, but I think they have progressed to far to just be considered a death metal band.

Blood bath is an awesome death metal band even though theyve only released a 3 song ep heh. They got the vocalist from opeth, dan swano ,and some other fellas from katatonia. And of course you have the mighty Death which of course rocks!

As far as black metal goes, I reckon Immortal are pretty damn good (see avatar ) and so is Dissection (who have very maiden like melodies at times).

What this has to do with this post I dont have a clue..but anyway

How the hell are In Flames Death Metal? They dont even have a massivedoublebasspoundingmetaldrumassault!
COB are black metal... have you heard the vocals? They might make power metal music, but its pure black metal vocals!
