Testament Record Sales

Indeed, that was smart of you as the band members are the best source you can get (provided that they don't lie, lol). Anyway, I hope that one day Eric will read this thread and give us some numbers.:headbang:

Hate to be a bitch about it, but could you update the chart positions and sales for DROE too? Here's the post with the chart positions (I've added additional sources for each of the countries, all of them are reliable so there will be no problem in adding them):

Thanks a lot. The list on Wikipedia does not include the following countries:

Poland (here's the separate source, as the previous one I indicated does not contain it: http://c01d01-8l1a15upoh.zpavolis.cloud112.onyx.pl/listy/index.asp?idlisty=753&lang=/; it's confirmed also here by NB: http://www.nuclearblast.de/en/label/company/charts.html?artist_id=71065&year=all), where it debuted on #8.

Norway #11 (here are separate additional sources: http://lista.vg.no/artist/testament/album/dark-roots-of-earth/12691 and http://norwegiancharts.com/showitem.asp?interpret=Testament&titel=Dark+Roots+Of+Earth&cat=a)
Italy #27 (additional source: http://www.fimi.it/classifiche_result_artisti.php?anno=2012&mese=07&id=419)
Denmark #29 (additional sources: http://www.hitlisten.nu/ - choose week 31/2012 in the albums list; and http://danishcharts.com/showitem.asp?interpret=Testament&titel=Dark+Roots+Of+Earth&cat=a)
Czech Republic #45 (additional official source: http://www.ifpi.cz/hitparada/index.php?a=titul&hitparada=14&titul=150656&sec=ad60884af8c760c4a7aaea7fc327fe7f)
France #46 (additional source: http://lescharts.com/showitem.asp?interpret=Testament&titel=Dark+Roots+Of+Earth&cat=a )
Spain #57 (additional source: http://spanishcharts.com/showitem.asp?interpret=Testament&titel=Dark+Roots+Of+Earth&cat=a).

Additionally, according to this: http://www.oricon.co.jp/prof/artist/107042/ranking/cd_album/ it was on #56 in Japan.

As for Belgium - Flanders it debuted on #80, but since went up to #54.
Same for Belgium - Walloonia, where it started on #40 but peaked at #29. What is noteworthy is that it remained on those charts for 10 and 9 weeks, respectively. (here are the additional sources for Belgium: http://www.ultratop.be/nl/showitem.asp?interpret=Testament&titel=Dark+Roots+Of+Earth&cat=a, http://www.ultratop.be/fr/showitem.asp?interpret=Testament&titel=Dark+Roots+Of+Earth&cat=a).

Also some lists on Billboard:

#1 on Independent albums
#2 on Tastemaker albums

And some UK sub-lists too:

#3 United Kingdom Indie Top 40
#3 United Kingdom Rock Top 40

Also #1 at Sweden Rock, #13 at Ireland Indie.

Finally, the album landed at position 9 on the worldwide sales list with 58.500 copies sold (here are 2 additional sources for some of the charts: http://www.nuclearblast.de/en/label/company/charts.html?artist_id=71065&year=all and http://acharts.us/album/72235). This was also confirmed by both Chuck and Alex on twitter.

Once again two additional sources here: http://www.nuclearblast.de/en/label/company/charts.html?artist_id=71065&year=all (official Nuclear Blast), http://acharts.us/album/72235.

I've provided the number of copies sold in the US in one of the last posts. I've also found the first week figure for UK. I've yet to find the number of copies sold in Japan (I've only found it for Formation).

It would be great to have all that up on Wikipedia (both here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Testament_discography and here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Roots_of_Earth), so thanks a lot in advance. Obviously, the Formation data is not complete too, but since DROE was more successful and is more current, it's better to update/correct this one.

Surprisingly, the older albums info is more accurate. The only omissions I've found are:

1) the lack of info about the positions of Practice (#29, source: http://www.charts.de/album.asp?artist=Testament&title=Practice+What+You+Preach&cat=a&country=de) and New Order (#49, source: http://www.charts.de/album.asp?artist=Testament&title=The+New+Order&cat=a&country=de) on the German charts.

2) the lack of Japaneese charts for: Souls of Black (#70), The Ritual (#58), Low (#77), First Strike (#70) and Formation (#42) (source: http://www.oricon.co.jp/prof/artist/107042/ranking/cd_album/).

If you could add that info (supplement the table) here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Testament_discography, it'd be great too. Thanks!

Ok. I'll get on that one. And yeah I'd love to see Peterson or Billy read this and give us more info. I still say 4 million is too small for Testament

I'm not. Here's Chuck's profile: http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/member.php?u=6187. I can't remember Eric's, but I'm pretty sure he was here too (so was SDG, Steve Smyth, and Louie I think). Anyway, I doubt any of them reads the forum. Chuck's on twitter these days and Eric's never been interacting with the fans that much. Can't blame him for that. Hopefully someone will ask him about the sales in an interview, as he's obviously the best informed person when it comes to Testament.

True.

Here is what megadeth has sold (according to them) :)

Tuesday, February 12, 2013 –Metal heavyweights Megadeth have today announced that they will be touring the U.K. in June of this year. They will play headline shows in Newcastle, Glasgow, Manchester and London. Megadeth tickets go onsaleat 9 a.m. on Friday, February 15, and are available from www.livenation.co.uk or www.ticketmaster.co.uk. Megadeth fan club tickets presale begins Wednesday, February 13 @ 9 a.m. local at http://cyberarmy.megadeth.com.

For a heavy metal band that’s been around for nearly three decades, selling more than 38 million albums worldwide, earning numerous accolades including 11 Grammy® nominations, scoring five consecutive platinum albums—including 1992’s two-million-selling Countdown to Extinction—Megadeth’s founder, leader and primal guitar-slinger and lyricist Dave Mustaine feels the best is yet to come, especially after signing an exclusive worldwide deal with Universal Music Enterprises(UMe).

Nice! Also I can't believe they didn't win the Grammy AGAIN!! I hope Super Collider is as awesome as 13 and Endgame

Ha! The Grammys. Such a bunch of bullshit.
I like what I've heard so far from the studio clips. Also this is the first I've heard of the title and the new label.

There's a press release on their site. We'll see if Universal is a good label for them. It's not what I was expecting. And 38 million is closer to the 40 that Necroshine had mentioned before. It's good to know Deth has sold that much.

UME, universal music enterprises. It's different than the movie studio, which does have it's own label. It might be a subsidiary but I'm not for sure.

After looking at Wikipedia, they are owned by Universal, and they happen to be "the largest American music corporation in the world".

Is that like the movie company? I didn't know they had a label. Yes I'm glad about that number as well!

Yeah. They're selling quickly. Hope they catch up to Metallica. I'm so sick of hearing about them. What they did on their first 5 albums is CLASSIC but everything else was shit. Death Magnetic was GOOD. Not great like everyone says

I doubt that will happen. Metallica has sold over 100 million records. Megadeth would have to sell more than they already have just to catch up.

Wait....who says magnetic is great? :loco:

Mostly Metallica fanboys and the people that write the reviews. They're arogant sometimes ESPECIALLY LARS! He announced last year that they're entering the studio in December 2012 and said the album will be released in LATE 2013-MID 2014! WHO THE HELL TAKES THAT LONG TO RECORD AND RELEASE AND ALBUM??? Megadeth and Overkill release an album every 2-3 years MAX Metallica is so slow

I guess Mustaine has his own label too. It's called Tradecraft. He says it's gonna be great for metal bands around the world.Universal must be the distributer?

They mostly write in the studio, plus they can afford it. Sure it's a waste, but what do they care?

Well then shame on them. They shouldn't keep their fans that make them everything they are waiting like this. You take away the fans from Metallica, they'd have been nothing more than a buncha average joes.

You have to remember they tour a lot long than most bands do. They release an album and then go the road for two or three years.
