Texas shows cancelled??

Here we go again with Saxon cancelling their US shows. C'mon guys why can't you play in the US anymore? If they do cancel that show that means the 9th, 10th, and 11th of November have no venues...does anyone know if they will book other places again at the last minute? They did that two years ago. It doesn't seem right that they only have six locations for the US tour in 2005, but back when Unleash The Beast came out they had thirty!!!

I hate to play devil's advocate (no pun intended), but sometimes shows are cancelled based on low advanced ticket sales. If a band doesn't sell a certain ammount of tickets beforehand, they cancel the show. (it is still a business)
Let's hope this isn't the case. I myself am suprised on how many Saxon fans there are out there in the States, however many of them, I know, were unaware of the tour.

but somehow the American Saxon fan will be blamed for this. The band, the venue and the promoter need to "promote" these shows if they want people to know. It`s a known fact that metal fans of the 80`s are pretty much older now. We don`t have the luxury of going out on weeknights like we did eons ago. Most have families now and these week night shows are simply a "no-go". Heavy Metal needs to get back to basics here in the states. Friday or Saturday nights only, one opening band and no assigned seats. General admission venues is what metal needs here in the USA. It`s a lost cause though because todays kids don`t know true talent if it bit them on their balls/clitoris. It`s a shame too. Music, especially the Nu-Metal crap totally sucks these days(with the exception of a few bands like Saxon, Maiden). There are no guitarists, no "singers"(only cookie monster impersonators)and the drummers are nothing special. Hopefully the NJ show isn`t cancelled. It`s the only one I`m attending. I`ve been doing the metal gig thing since 1979(saw AC/DC w/Bon Scott open for Nugent and Priest Hell Bent For Leather Tour open for Kiss). It`ll never be like that again and the future looks dismal for Heavy Metal in the United States. I see the end of the line coming. None of the great metal bands of the past are going to come here(USA)to play in bars that won`t sell out. That though, is the bands management. They`re to blame for the dismal state metal is in currently.

Ray,

I got my ticket for Dallas, I booked my flight from the UK, it took me 6 fooking hours to find a hotel within 5km of the Dallas show.

I have seen Saxon enough times in the UK to know what a Saxon gig is. My perverse reasoning at the moment told me not to go to this part of the UK tour. I wanted to see Dallas 1pm in Dallas (I was hoping to get this to co-incide with King's X... but no show in Texas)

I don't know how you feel missing out on this, but then again since 1995, Saxon tours in the UK have been limited to 5 or 6 shows throughout the UK, so depending on your location hotels have to be booked....

.... You cant go and see a Saxon gig without beer!!!

But when you say the American Saxon fan will be blamed for this, dont ever think that way. I have been to a gig in the UK where there was less than 50 people.

If the guys in Saxon could play anywhere in the world, they would.

It doesn't matter whether there are 5, 50, 500 or 5000 people, you pay and they will play. The problem is with the management company and the promoters. If Saxon play in the USA then the management company should have sorted this out months ago, they should even be prepared to take a loss on their takings like UK venues 10-15 years ago.

Your last comment though "They`re to blame for the dismal state metal is in currently."

Sorry, did you give us MTV, or did you inflict that one on us!

well put...but I don't understand why the Unleash The Beast tour had 30 gigs, and this tour had 7 (originally). I mean 7 dates isn't a tour...for god sakes they played in New Hapshire in 1998, and now just because of bad promotion, I won't get to see them again unless I drive to Cleveland, which is quite a ways from me.

I`m not saying Saxon`s management alone is to blame for how metal is here, but ALL heavy metal bands managements are to blame. They need to kick the promoters in the balls and get the venues to get the word out about who is playing their establishments. Y&T just played a dive bar in Clifton, NJ. Good thing I was surfing around or I wouldn`t have known at all. Great show too!

MTV has everything to do with the way music has gone in the US and pretty much around the world basically. I stopped watching MTV way before Headbangers Ball was even on. I think it was 1984/5 that I couldn`t watch MTV anymore. It sucked having to sit through Sinatra videos, video killed the radio star video and other pop music stuff just to see an Iron Maiden video. It was brutal. All a hoping game at that time. Havn`t really watched much MTV/VH1 since the mid 80`s.

I didn`t know Saxon had trouble selling tix in the UK. THAT, is news to me. I know they`re super huge in Germany. Figured they hadn`t lost any fans in the UK, but I guess I`m wrong there. Last time I saw Saxon was on LI, NY at Mulcahey`s on the Killing Ground Tour. There were around 3,000 people in the place for a benefit for a fallen firefighter from 9/11. It took place a few hours before Saxon hit the stage. Once Saxon came on, the place emptied out and there were about 100 total left in the place. Probably around 50 die-hard Saxon fans. Saxon totally kicked ass regardless. Saxon never really did get the respect they rightly deserve here in the USA. I doubt we will ever get to see a proper Saxon gig here(full stage set and all).

I`ll see some of you people at the NJ show, those who are going anyway. I should be at the bar around 5:30/6:00pm. I know Biff and everyone are super cool people. I was on their tour bus bullshitting for about an hour with them getting things signed and having a few beers. Hope they remember me? I helped move a fence out of their way when they couldn`t get the tour bus out of the parking spot. :tickled: Just yell out RAY when you get to the bar. We`ll have a few pints before Saxon kicks our asses!!

When I was about 9 or 10 (can't rightly remember) my dad took me to see these guys on the "Innocence Is No Excuse" tour. I remember it was somewhere in Minneapolis and in '86 or '87, but being that age, I don't remember where. We only lived there for a few years. But the set for that tour was extravagant as well as I can remember. They had the Eagle behind Glockler, and played the JFK recording during Dallas 1PM, also Biff swore through most of the show, which was a treat to my ears at that age! I know there were a lot of people there too, more than 200 definitely! Too bad my dad now listens to light rock...hey we all calm down a bit I guess.

I was at the show at Mulcahey's too. Believe it or not, it wasn't the smallest crowd that I have seen Saxon perform in front of. I saw them in New Hampshire in '98 in front of about 50 diehard fans. Didn't matter then either as they kicked ass and sat around signing everything afterwards.

I'll be at the first two shows next week (assuming they still make the trip for 5 gigs). I'll look for you, Ray. I'll be wearing one of my many Saxon shirts and since I have been a fan since 1980, you can probably guess that I am not a "young" metalhead anymore!

I saw Saxon this summer for the first time. It was in Germany at Bang Your Head and they kicked serious ass. The crowd went crazy with them. They were one of the main attractions of the day, they played right before Motorhead and after bands as Gamma Ray, U.D.O., Amon Amarth or Destruction. I still regret not having seen them in London back in the late 80's, I was too much into Thrash back them and I seldom knew anything they had released but for Power & the Glory and Crusader. Therefore, I can say I fixed that mistake.

Like good wine, Saxon is a band to taste slowly without any hurry.
