That's how my master buss looks right now, and i'm so sick of those particular bands i don't really know what to do anymore, those are coming from the kick, guitars and bass, but if i take them off of any of these, the instrument or kick itself, turns damn thin, the guitars mostly, sound ridiculously thin if i try to reach a nice curve on the guitar buss...

I think my major problem is getting the tone at least acceptable at the source, if i don't get anything simmylar in the spectrum, i get crap. But then again, this is crap too.

Ideas?:Smug:

'cause it's like i can't control those freq's without making everything sound thin, and if left there, they just give the whole mix that ugly boooooommm or rumble i dunno and eats my headroom

yep, actually abused it and got nowhere, but hey, the mail guy just brought my new AKG's... now this is totally different... i'll post a clip in a couple minutes, let's see if i can get rid of that, thanks

post a short clip.
i would say your room tricks you.
So you boost or cut, stuff because it sounds in your mixing place good.

take joeys advice "build your standard" and listen in your room to your favorite mixes. compare the analyser pics, this will be a real eye-opener

I've been meaning to mess with analyzers and whatnot....so I just checked out a remix I did of one of my bands songs off our demo. Is this good or bad? I'll try to get a clip up in a bit....It still sounds kinda dry to my ears. I just got a free tape saturation plug as well that does indeed warm the guitars up!

is this "ok"?

Analyzers are good tools, but they don't come close to your ears. If it sounds good, it's good. Take any pop production nowadays and it'll look like white noise in a spectrum analyzer.

Ok, I think this is the first time I'll be posting any of my "work" on here. I was going to a while back, but I was kind of afraid of my mix and how you guys would react.

The drums were recorded poorly. We had very limited time, space, and gear. Only single mics on kick, snare, toms. No double micing of any kind. Nothing is replaced. I had to use a massive amount of EQ to get the kick to cut through and obviously it is now sorta clicky. I tried to EQ everything into their own spots in the mix as best I could. Guitars and bass are Revalver. Vox is SM57 with a sock over it for pop filter, on a stand and vocalist about 6" to 12" away. It was a big learning experience for all of us...and I cant wait to try to do it again, but better!!

also, in this recording is my VERY first attempt at sidechaining the bass to the kick.

Any advice would seriously be very much appreciated.

EDIT: sorry, didnt mean to semi-hijack the thread...but I felt it more necessary to fit in here rather than create a new one.

dude what do you mean by "those particular bands" ?? do you mean that you get the same sound/ curve in the analyzer all the time between proyects??

mute some tracks and find out what instrument is causing that, then deal with it. probably a room issue if your ears aren't picking up on that already though..
