That is no racist statement but...

Okay, here's the deal... I name you 1000 more or less popular metal bands that consist of non-black (ha!) bandmembers and you try to name 50 that have at least one in... I bet I win :heh:

But what about God Forbid?!?! :goggly::lol:
.

I'm not black, but my parents are from India. I'm seem to be one of the few Indian metal fans, especially when it comes to females. So far, I've been the only Indian at metal shows. The Indian metal fans I do meet are guys, but they are rare in general.

My experience is that minority backgrounds can shun you for listening to metal, because it's perceived as the "white man's music." I have been accused of being "white-washed" for being a metal fan by other Indians, being ashamed of my ethnic background, and asked how an Indian girl like myself could like such music.

I can imagine how a black metalhead could also be given a hard time from other blacks...Just a thought.

Interesting.

BTW I find all these posts interesting, I hope they keep coming, especially from non-honkey-crackers.

I'd like to know why did you name the thread "That is no racist statement but..."
You really need to be sorry in advance for simply asking why there is not many blacks in metal bands? I can't get how could anyone find any racism in that?

I think the reason that we're struggling with this is because it's not a catagory of distinction for bands... I mean... you never go into a shop and think "right... I want a band with black members who play cock-rock" or anything like that.

It's not a racist question, but it is a dumb one. Why does it need to be asked??

Because I'm not naive and I've run into a lot of people who jump and get offended just by bringing colors/races into discussion. This board is far more open-minded, I see that, yet I wanted it to be clear right from the start.

Ok, seriously, you people (Ahtjteam, Amberience) making the lists and whatnot can't seriously believe you're proving that black people are equally representated in metal as white people. You're just listing exceptions, cuz I think we can all agree that, as a whole, metal is not a big stop on the soul train, so to speak (sorry, I love that expression  ), as illustrated by posts like scorpio's, Kazrog's (about his friend) and VeraRenczi.

And Amberience, it's a category of distinction because a metal band with one or more black members is unusual, and as to why it needs to be asked, well, many people believe that racial issues need to be confronted and dealt with, rather than ignored and/or denied.

There is no issue to deal with. There are plenty of ethnic people doing metal, and plenty of ethnic people doing things that aren't a part of their heritage.

Metal came from rock. Rock came from blues. Blues came from black slaves. Ergo, metal is black slave music, albeit in a much more evolved and concentrated fashion.

The notion that metal is white people's music is preposterous.

And why the hell should anyone feel like they have to represent their race?? The very idea of any race being represented in the metal (or any) scene is just ludicrous.... music is music, and it is for everyone.

the singer in Accept, Udo Dirkschneider has a son as far as I know (a good friend of mine knows him personally so I think that is a "true" information)
but that guy acctualy said that Rock'n'Rolf, the guy from Running Wild is gay, not sure about that.
