What about Myke Terry, the new Bury Your Dead singer? Wasn't a fan of the new album, but I saw them live a month or so ago with Parkway Drive and I haven't seen many singers that dominate the stage like he does.
Metal came from rock. Rock came from blues. Blues came from black slaves. Ergo, metal is black slave music, albeit in a much more evolved and concentrated fashion.
And black slave music came from spiritual Christian music meaning black metal is just a more evolved form of Christian music. Of course virtually all music evolved from some other music, but that doesn't suggest that the cultures they spawn cohere together as if there were no distinction.
It's no coincidence that an Outkast concert is more likely to attract blacks than pretty much any metal act out there. We can discuss this phenomenon intelligently without pretending like it doesn't exist.

Well said, I hate when people do the whole influence tracing thing; while it may be true, it has little bearing on what the music has become, just like people who might start an organization with certain ideals might despise what it becomes when the majority of the organization takes it in a different direction.
I think we're in agreement for the most part, just tossing semantics around for the helluv it!
I agree with you. Which is why I don't think the lack of abundance of black people in metal is an important discussion. Some people do feel it is an important discussion, because they feel there is a racial issue at the heart of it.. I think those people just think too much.
Oh, and someone can think too much by taking a thread to 4 pages, whilst discovering nothing new, and essentially flogging a dead horse.
This is a forum. It is made for discussions. You're free to ignore posts you don't think are important.
I discovered some new bands I'd like to look into from this thread. I discovered, yet again, that people around here are pretty open-minded which I salute while others are being pretty narrow-minded^^
And it is not only my viewpoint that it is an objective fact. Dude, go to a fuckin' big metal festival where you'll met hundreds of thousands of metalheads in one place. Be it in the US, Europe or anywhere else. Then, just look at how many black people you'll find. It is just an example, don't nail me down on it.
I was just wondering, man, I didn't find an answer to my initial question before I posted it. I find it interesting and I find it worthwhile to discuss.
I did not argue with anyone but you. I don't like your attitude, your pointing at me and bashing me without reason. No need to go personal just because you feel others misunderstand you. Please look into the mirror before you go outside, thanks.
And if you think it is a waste of time discussing this please refrain from posting, at least that would be logical. :Smug:
The absence of black people in metal is not an objective fact, it is your viewpoint.
Your argument makes no sense. You've perceived something, yet you project it as objective fact. You've witnessed a scene from a certain angle, and you're presenting it as all angles. Yet we here are telling you different, and you still wont accept our viewpoints as being valid - you insist that we're not seeing correctly.

There is, in fact, no such thing as thinking too much. What you're speaking of is referred to as 'jacking off to how smart one thinks he is'.

That was fun to read! How many gay's are there in metal?
I only got Rob Halford. I never really thought about it though.![]()
No, that wasn't a personal attack against anyone. I really mean that there is no such thing as thinking too much - but thinking about stupid bullshit is a definite possibility.
Jeff
You mean how many "openly gay" people there are in metal?
My friend, who has excellent gaydar(you don't have to believe in gaydar if you don't want to), says that Dave Mustaine has homosexual tendencies. At first, I was like "Yeah right." But then again, this friend is always on the dot at pointing out closet gays.
Who knows.
