Glad you came out of the car ok.
My experience is that tolex lasts 3 days on tour......carpet and the mesa stuff lasts a little longer....grills are a crap shoot. Mic stands (etc.) go through clothe grills fairly easily if things shift in the tailer.
Road cases can double the weight of a guitar cab so products like these and the mesa "road-ready" series make a lot of sense to me-- most of the protection much less weight.

Yeah just a little seatbelt rash and a concusion. As you said tolex is def a crap shoot and actually it did get bashed up in that respect, but only the back so who cares. The grill is metal and nothing dented it so it's all good that way. The handles are metal, in fact the only thing plastic on this cab is the covering on the wire and the nuts that go around the input jacks. The car was toast and my head needed to be serviced but even that was min. My cab has def standed the test of time and thats all I was looking for.
