Has anyone been following this?
This trial is so fucked up... makes you really appreciate the US's legal system...
I've been only following this story in the last couple of weeks, so I may not know many details- but seems to me she has innocent written all over her- and still she will be convicted?

Chris: what's up with the Italian justice system?

It works on both sides. The media divide, which corresponds identically to which side of the Atlantic Ocean your on, decides whether she's depicted as an American rail-roaded by a foreign justice system or whether she was a trust-fund baby tramping around Europe like she owned it.

The truth, as always, is somewhere in between.

I guess you're right Derek...
I was reading about the evidence though and the other dude that was arrested and convicted, and all fingers point to him no matter which side of the ocean you're in, right?

Well, and I concede my understanding of the trial is shallow considering I have no access to objective reports/evidence, I think the situation on the ground was rather complicated.

I think there was some problem with them falsifying evidence (they broke a window in the wrong direction) to support the idea that a 3rd party was entirely responsible, and so there is certainly some doubt as to their innocence.

Well, the Italian justice system is bullshit, but could NEVER be accused of being overzealous. In my opinion, they err too much on the side of caution for defendants. So if she got 26 years in prison (it's an Italian prison...so it's not that bad) then the evidence must've been overwhelmingly against her. The Italian legal system gives two appeals to BOTH the defendant and the plaintiff, so she'll probably get much less. This thing is far from over. Also, even if she does go to jail, I'll bet you money she'll be out in 4 years. Parole is given out like candy here.

I found some things suspicious as well, but the thing that buried her is that she could never keep her story straight. When they found out the girl died, everyone was asking how in the police station, and Knox said, "How the fuck do you think she died? She bled to death." This was before any information was released to the public and there would've been no way she could've known that without having either witnessed it or known about it being done prior. Also, the window being broken in the wrong direction was a strike against her...also the fact that she pointed the finger initially at a Senegalese immigrant whom they arrested but later released after finding he had nothing whatsoever to do with any of it. Her boyfriend got 26 years as well, I think. Again, they'll appeal and this will go on for another two years, and then they'll get parole in 2 more years and be back in the states.

Don't feel bad for people going to prison here; they have their own personal tvs and kitchenettes in their "cells".

It is very odd. It's like a classic Poirot case because there isn't any DNA or fingerprints or hair samples or anything linking anyone to the victim. She and her boyfriend also sexually assaulted her the night before...I mean, it's either all circumstantial and one big coincidence or they're guilty. We'll see in the coming months. I always say the Italian judicial system is shit because they're out of practice...no one ever gets sent to prison for a long time unless they've been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt to be guilty, like the Moroccan father who slit his daughter's throat the other day for moving in with her Italian boyfriend. This happened very close to where I live at the club we frequent sometimes, so it was shocking. Grisly murders like that just don't happen very often here.

It's not a good time to be a Muslim in Italy right now.

hah.

Some muslims are so fucked up. I fucking hate any religion, but Islam is on the top of my hate list.

As much as I'd like to believe that I'm a bit more tolerant, I can't. Agreed.

The townspeople were waiting outside the jail where he was being held so they could kill him themselves. I really can't say I blame them.

She was universally referred to by the media over here as "Foxy Knoxy" which was not only resolutely stupid but became unbelievably irritating. Her name is Amanda Knox, try not being a complete idiot Mr Reporter.
