The art of getting into the Dark Tranquility

well, as you may already see in the title, I want to get into the band.
I have this t-shirt of the band and I felt it wouldn't do them justice if I had the shirt, but none of their music.

Anyways, I've contemplating on getting The Gallery, but yeh, what do you guys say?

For a moment, I interpreted your "I want to get into the band" sentence literally, as in "I want to become a member of Dark Tranquillity, where do I go from here?".

I think there is a suggestion thread, where the individual records are discussed; you can maybe find the link in the "Everybody read this before posting" thread. I'm sorry if I am wrong, can't remember really and I'm too lazy to check it now. Anyway, if it's not listed there our noble moderator will point it out to you as soon as he comes online.

Skydancer, The gallery, Projector and Damage Done are their best releases. My personal fav is Skydancer.

I personally got into them by wanting to check out new music and coming across "Insanity's Cresendo". After that, I scrambled for all things Swedish

Can't go wrong with anything by them, really, but newer fans might want to check out The Mind's I before proceeding to anything else. That's like a general sample of what most DT is about, without the electronic elements on their later stuff. Damage Done would be the next choice, and if you like that, all the albums they've ever done

I wouldn't say there's an exact "art" getting into the style of a band's music. It just depends on personal preferences. I mean, one might think "Punish My Heaven" is the best song to get into Dark Tranquillity, but someone else thinks it's the worst.

Damage Done is probably the easiest to get into; The Gallery is their Classic Album (tm); Skydancer is the most TWU.

Projector and Haven are terrific albums, some might find the former a little too hard to get into and the latter not as "heavy" or whatever, as one would like..

The Mind's I is their weakest imo. Still has some decent songs on it though.

Punish My Over-Hyped Song is definetly not a good song to get into
DT, it sounds way too much like any other generic death/black band
and DT is definetly not even close to generic.

Maybe it is you. I remember reading somewhere on this forum that Punish My Heaven is overrated or something like that.
