The Band v. The Style

i think it's The Band for me, even though i pretty much have no idea what's going on in this thread. I like bands, i don't buy every release in a style I like, and i'm not afraid to give up on a band if they falter. but a change in style alone would never be enough for me to give up on a band. they'd have to start sucking.

Depends on the music really, it's usually The Band, especially if said Band doesn't conform to The Style. When i'm more attracted to The Style than The Band, it's usually when the aesthetic is more dominant than individual contributions, as in predominantly instrumental Styles.

I'm a hybrid between the two. I mean, I've been a Gathering fan since their 2nd album, and they've really evolved, and I've been with them every step of the way, still digging them. But I'm not driven to investigate or purchase every band that has a cool female vocalist. Well, except for Elfonia, and they only have two CDs.

But I'm kinda an anti-stylist, because there are some genres with I just view with either contempt or humour, like NSBM.

I go for styles moreso than bands...I use style to find bands that I like and will generally listen to a high number of bands that may sound similar.

This is still pretty true for me. I listen to more styles now and I have really made an effort to explore some of the foundational bands in these new styles, but I'm still less likely to go for a band that is really great in a style I don't care for than a solid band in a style I really enjoy.
