THE BAYING OF THE HOUNDS
I hear the baying
and know that they are talking to me.
I know in my soul
that there is a longing,
a need to run as my brother, the wolf,
and survive off the land.
And I also understand
as the hounds bay,
that my time is running short,
and there is little I can do to stop it.
It's said that time waits for no man,
and I know that time is not my friend...
but with every sound of the hounds,
I feel a little part of me die,
still longing to feel the wind at my back,
the sun warm my face,
and the Great Spirit
smiling upon me.
