The Beatles?

Greatest band ever, what they achieved within the time they were active has never been rivalled, and a band that never got worse at being a band, they never let themselves down, the songs got better and better until they perfected what they did and split up.

They wrote some of the best melodies in the world, and kept writing them, constantly inspired, constantly inspiring.

you know what... in july 1966 they went on tour in the phillipines and they were offered to have dinner with imelda marcos, the presidents wife, and their manager george martin turned her down because they didn't really go for the whole political game. george never mentioned it to the rest of the beatles though, but imelda marcos apparently wasn't used to being told no, so she put on the whole ceremony of the beatles arriving anyway, national tv coverage, massive crowds and so on. On the way to their hotel and while they were on tour they had massive police motorcase escorts, police on bikes, halting traffic for them and then escorting them into their hotels through all the crowds.... so they were sat in their hotel the morning that they would have been going to meet imelda marcos, and they turned the tv on and say the coverage of the tv presenter saying the beatles were due to arrive any minute, and they were just sat there in the hotel going......."what....."

George martin saw it and told them about turning down the offer, and on tv they hadn't shown up, everyone was going nuts and started rioting, the crowds were getting pretty nasty, and it was pretty much announced that the beatles had snubbed the presidents wife and the country basically. so when they came to leave the hotel, their police escorts had gone... there was no one there to take them to the airport, so they tried to get out of the hotel, carrying their bags and instruments themselves, as people were crowding round them punching and kicking them. They managed to get into their vehicle with all their stuff and their ONE POLICE OFFICER escort, who wasn't really trying, george martin thought they were going to die, when they got to the airport people were following them trying to batter them and they had to fight through these crowds with their instruments in hand and when they got to the escalator and got in it, it stopped. the airport people actually stopped the escalator on them so they had to walk up with people trying to get them.

They got on the plane somehow and armed forces showed up outside the plane and wouldnt let it take off, they demanded that george martin, the manager, got off the plane, so he stood up, crying as he thought they were going to kill him and said to the beatles "tell my wife i love her" and he got off the plane, the forces demanded back all the money they had made on tour while in their country, they got it, then they let the plane take off.

thats fucking nuts. it has no sway on whether you will listen to them or not but it's a great story.

I would seriously now say i like the beatles just as much as metallica. thats just me though, i bloody love em.

i just say i like them to look cool.

thats the thing nowadays you know, it's how gangmembers show how hard they are.

"yeah man, fuckin beatles ya know, fuckin top choons"

"fuck you man you don't fuckin av fuckin please please me dickhead"

"i fuckin capped a bitch while fuckin bangin out 'the long and winding road' on ma fuckin ghettoblaster wanker, capped that bitch right in the face"

yeah i'll stop now. i do like the beatles yes, it's ol's fault as well!

First band I ever got into... I remember being aged about 7 listening to them on my walkman whenever my parents drove me anywhere... loved them then, still love them now. Though not so much the McCartney stuff, he's too bloody chirpy by half. And his songs are kind of kitsch for my taste. George Harrison was the man, wrote a lot of my favourite songs. A very under-rated song-writer was George...

i like the mix of styles though, mccartney doing his "granny" songs, which yeah, are usually quite "nice" and lennon basically writing about himself and his own experience all the time haha, whereas harrison completely surprises everyone by writing some of their best stuff like "something", "while my guitar gently weeps" and "here comes the sun".... i just love all the different things they do, there's so much more to the beatles than what people know from only knowing some of their number 1 hits.... incredibly clever songwriters.

favourite 5 tracks?

in no order:

Girl
Something
Help
Fool on the Hill
She Loves You

Big effin' dot!! My favorite band of all time!! :kickass: :worship: Listening to The White Album as I type this actually. :)

Thanks for sharing the story, Matt. I knew about what had happened, just not in that much detail.

They're quickly rivalling metallica as my favourite band of all time, i like how lennon's lyrics were being scrutinised so closely as to all the hidden meanings and metaphors, so he started just writing absolute bollocks occasionally to see what people would read into it..... some of his songs mean nothing, yet mean exactly that, so they do have meaning. thats fucking great.
