Since some of you seem into classical music, I thought I'd start this thread. Your suggestions are welcome. ;)

I'll start with early 20th century American modern composer Charles Ives.

I was obsessed with Ives for about a year. But he's just too dramatic for me, and what's worse I hear his influence everywhere now, so it's all inescapable.

I listened to Finlandia a lot when I was writing my thesis about local railway history. Music really helped the soar to the skies of 19th century Finland which was about to break away from the mighty Russian empire. It is a very national romantic piece of music. No wonder it was later used in a Finnish WWII war movie.
