yeah Troy Denning and Karen Traviss are the only ones i thoroughly enjoyed, i can't get past the last book because i lose interest very quickly because I HATE Aaron Allstons writing...
I've only read one of each author, but based on that I actually liked Aaron Allston more than Karen Traviss. God, it was so slow-paced. Also, she seemed to have the tendency to make the SW universe too relatable (not a word). This may be total nitpicking, but to give you an example, when the riots are breaking out on Coruscant, the
riot police meet them with tear gas, riot shields and helmets with transparent visors that pull down. Essentially the exact same things we use. C'mon, this is the galactic civilization that has mastered interstellar travel, created a wonder drug that could cure anything and heal any wound, has fuckin turbolasers, and guys who can fuck shit up with their mind... yet they're riot control techniques are identical to those of 20th century USofA?? Like I said, probably nitpicking, but thats just one example.
Kinda like when Jacen and Ben are going around breakin down Corellian doors, and the way she describes the streets and the whole police raid made me imagine it like a drug raid in Harlem, not a massive operation to thwart terrorism in the Galactic City.
The thing I love about the SW universe is that while it is relatable, its incredibly different and imaginative, but she goes too far with the former.[/endrant]
So far:
Book 1 - Good, but not the greatest
Book 2 - Good when it was on Jacen Solo, but otherwise it was frequently booring and silly, took a few days to finish
Book 3 - Ass kicking started, Cool shit goes down, I killed it in a day easily.
