The Devil Wears Prada sells 30,000 units first week(#11 on billboard top 200).

Yeah, compared to the re-release of plagues, the vocals sound like the most naturally produced thing in the world haha
Pitch correction artifacts all over the plagues re-release, and i'd say it sounds fairly transparent on the new record

I can't believe I just read, "Who cares about pitch correction". What the fuck ever happened to being good at singing? Everyones getting fucking lazy.

Also, the autotuning is NOT transparent on this cd. It sticks out like a motherfucker.

Just like the distortion on the guitars sticks out, whatever happened to using strings made of BEES to get your grind?!? Fucking amps are cheating!

The autotune on this CD is CLEARLY used for effect, that's the sound they were going for and they achieved it.

Neither do Cynic (dammit if they use a Vocoder though, I think on one of the two albums it was pitch correction but I'm not sure).

I don't see a problem with the auto-tune... Joey explained this on AIM to me pretty well:

"8:45:08 PM Joey: thats what i hear on the records these bands (prada) look up to
8:45:17 PM Joey: i can't really see a natural ness to it
8:45:24 PM Joey: they're not singing like r&b
8:45:30 PM Joey: they're just doing straight notes per sylable
8:45:55 PM Joey: its a lot of layers tho"

Damit, that record sounds good! :O
At first I thought I wouldn't like the music but I'm enjoying that quite a bit as well. It somehow reminds me of Soilwork.
I'm gonna take this CD to the car and see how it sounds there. Should be interesting!

I'm not defending the musicians, If you have to produce some band you shouldn't give a shit about their quality as musicians and make them sound the best you can no matter how. It's your job, you're not their singing teacher.

If that means insane pitch correction, then it's your task to make it as transparent and smooth as possible, without compromising the final product.

EDIT: Now i've just listened to the right song, and the tuning seems to be an effect rather than a fix.

+1
I've had to do tonnnnnnsss of pitch correction on a band before, because the dude was almost tone deaf...i somehow made it believable sounding though...

lol @ people who talk shit about autotune when it's on 90% of any records they have heard in the past 10 years.

When you are doubling something it is basically necessary to tune them a bit to get them tight, not to mention adding a harmony and doubling that? plus a low octave and whatever other layers you want to put down? You can be the best singer ever but when you are working with that many layers all the little differences build up quick and make it sound like ass.

Maybe there are some singers that can do it but I haven't met one.
