It's by far Maiden's worst cover, but it's, in hindsight, not that BAD. It's not great either, but it's not a steaming pile of shit, IMO. I do hope they make another cover, but if not, i won't get all pissy for a damn cover. It's really the music that matters really. sure, cool covers are a nice bonus, but not essential, ya know what i mean?

OK when does the album come out?
What say I do up a peice of Eddie art...similar concept...Eddie on a dance floor dressed like a reaper...all fucked up dancers around him...we send it to Rod with a letter saying..."I want no money for this...you have the entire rights to this peice of artwork, and you can even leave my name out of the credits for the album...just please god...PLEASE just change the cover!"

Anyway...I read on the DT board that someone read or heard that as the release date gets closer, all of the fucked up CG figures will come off and reveal the actual cover with Eddie and something about some hooded guys in the background you can kinda see. That would be ok I guess.
But as it is now...Definatley does not equal

Get rid of Giraffe Girl. I could almost accept it without her, even if the rest of it is shithouse too. Bad as it is, if they got rid of that thing with the neck, it would actually be better. Not much better, mind you, but better.

Thats the disturbing part...someone has sat down in poser for like 2 minutes and cranked out all these really dumb figures...slapped it onto an otherwise cool painting of eddie...and gone...bonza...finished.

The Eddie alone one is AWESOME.
Although, after much consideration, I've decided that the official one is the... BEST COVER EVER.

Maybe, just maybe, this is the reason. OK, the album's called DANCE of Death, yeah? Yeah. The way Eddie's posed, it looks like he's asking you to dance, yeah? Yeah. Now, I think it would be fairly fair to say that the majority of people who might buy this album are male. That's right, MALE.
Maybe Eddie asking another man to dance makes Eddie look a little...fruity. Eddie asking another man to come and join in an ORGY, on the other hand....

I agree. I don't think the cover is that bad like everyone is saying. It's just not done very well, with little skill like Sydo said, and looks amateurish.
And there is no way the St Anger cover is better though. I still think its better than ALOT of other album covers.
But yeah its one of Maiden's worst (I wouldn't go as far as to say its worse than Virtual XI, and Fear of The Dark isn't much better either). The main reason its a disappointment is because you expect so much from a Maiden cover. Its not that bad overall, just for Maiden its way below standards when you compare it to covers like Killers, The Number Of The Beast, No Prayer For The Dying, Somewhere In time, Live After Death, etc.
