The Exorcist: The Beginning

Saw this today and gotta say: Hmmm... It's ok for the most part, but by no means as great as the original. Nevertheless, it's not too bad until the end when the demon finally makes an appearance. Then it just gets cheesy and silly, relying on the same tricks that were so creepy in the original, but just aren't now. Oh well.

It's about Father Merrin when he did his first exorcism, back in the 40s or 50s. Sounds great in theory, but not in execution as far as I can tell.

It got all fucked up because they built up toward a really great ending, and then didn't deliver.

Also, in the original film, the Sumerian idol is already uncovered when Merrin sees it. In this movie, it's hidden in a cave beneath a buried church.
