The festival headliner next year....

Jag Panzer has headlined KEEP IT TRUE.
I think if Amorphis (no disrespect to them whatsoever) can be viewed as a headliner, JP certainly can.

Also add the fact that they have not done a full tour in the States since supporting Helloween in 2003 (and that wasn't even many dates).

Any fest isn't ONLY about the headliner anyhow, it's the whole package.

Just saying that a band with a rich discography like JP could do a special 2 hour set (IE - Performance of "Ample Destruction" in its entirety followed by another set, etc).

Amorphis is MUCH, MUCH bigger than Jag Panzer. I mean, look at the listening numbers on last.fm:

Amorphis: 265,951 listeners
Jag Panzer: 29,639

Obviously that's not the perfect way to judge which bands are headliner status, but when one band has nearly ten times as many listeners, it says something.

I dig Jag Panzer, but when was the last time they were relevant to the metal scene at all?

One of the worst mistakes a metal promoter can make is to use a band's European stature to make decisions on how they would be received in the U.S. Completely different world. Also, that they haven't done a tour these days is a bad sign. It means that a promoter has no idea how many fans are even interested in them still, especially when that promoter has seen a large chunk of that generation of fans leaving the scene alltogether.

Jason, no disrespect brother, but despite being around forever, Jag Panzer have never been a big band nor have they been a big draw. Sure they may have headlined a few festivals and have a rich discography but headlining a festival such as ProgPower? I don't think so.

Plus, comparing them with Amorphis is suicidal. You're just asking for it. Amorphis is a much bigger band than Jag Panzer will ever be, and no disrespect meant to Jag Panzer. They're cool and all, but I don't see them getting anything more than a 3rd, 4th slot if lucky.

Great point. Look at Angra, and their 2002 tour. From 4,000+ in Europe to 12 attendees in North Carolina.

Another good point. It could also mean there's simply no interest on putting together a tour for that band, which I honestly think may be the case with Jag Panzer.

you just said it yourself.....Sure they headlined KIT but like you said....a fest isnt just about a headliner. KIP is packed full of rare, cult, and cool bands. JP is made for that type of fest. Different market and crowd there than at PP. Lots of bands that would draw 15 people here headlined that fest from Nasty Savage to Flotsam and Jetsam to Omen. Now if it was a fest dedicated to traditional and classic metal....then they would be a great headliner but you still would not get PP numbers there. As we have discussed...traditional metal doesnt get the respect here in the states as it does in other countries.

If you're going to give a headliner two hours then it has to be someone special. I'm thinking Blind Guardian (finally), Helloween, Savatage, or Vanden Plas. Dream Theatre is also a possibility. Pagans' Mind is too soon.

I have a idea who it might be, but mind you this is just my opinion, I think it is going to be James LaBrie. Why you ask? I have no clue why i think that other than the new solo album coming out, and it just fits.

I think so to....why? I am no Sherlock Holmes or a Private Dick. Well maybe a dick. But clue #1. Glenn was in Chicago and met him. There is photo proof on this forum. Clue #2. This could be the special 2 hour thing that he menitioned that he gives major respect to. Clue #3. Dont have one.

About that: Clearly, the US market wasn't ready to embrace Angra, but didn't they know that before they started the tour? I remember Sonata took the bold step of touring on their own before they were probably ready when the Nightwish tour fell through. But don't you have to do that to build a fanbase?

Dream Theater will never be a possibility for this fest. They are WAY too big and are too expensive. As others have said, Labrie's solo band is a possibility. I'm guessing it's either him or it's Savatage. As cool as it would be for Vanden Plas, I don't know if they're quite the name to headline, nor am I sure that Glenn would take that risk quite yet, considering the last number of years. Do I think it's possible in the future? Yes, but I think we're still a couple years away from that at least.

To get VP back in the US, I think an immigration attorney is needed. It seems Glenn has one now. As far as if they are headliner material........ I think it is debatable. I am very biased obviously, but I can certainly say that they are a big draw. There were many many really long faces after the cancellation. Andy Kuntz is pushing 50. I don't know how many more releases VP have left in them considering the last two took four years.
I also think getting VP back here again depends just as much on the willingness of VP as well. Those guys flew here, got interrogated, then flown back. It was not a pleasant trip for them to say the least. Having said that..... who knows. I do hope to see them again at a PPUSA event.
