Just saw the new version last night. It was tits. If you plan on seeing the garbage that was The Devil Inside, don't. Go see the remake for the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I usually hate most movies, but whenever I see a movie and after its over all I do is think about it I know its a good one.

Anybody else see it? Thoughts?

I have never read the book or seen the 2009 version of it btw

I think it's always difficult to replicate the suspance of a book in a movie, but for this specific one it's impossible in my opinion.
Moreover I think it's kinda lame to do a remake after 2 years the original one came out...but you know, Hollywood doesn't know to do anymore.
Anyway I'll go to see it...I've seen the swedish one and some actors in my opinion were totally wrong in their roles (expecially Erica and Mikael).

Saw the OG, it was alright. Never read the books. I was highly disappointed with the girls looks. Fugly. Shame, I like dragon tattoos on hot chicks.

God damnit people, learn to read subtitles so you don't have to make your own version of every decent non-english film

Couldn't agree more. I see these new movies as absolutely nothing more than a money grab. The movies were already made. Well made in fact. Fucking America can't bother to read subtitles, and they know they'll make a killing. So there it is.

I saw all three of the originals as well. I agree that some of the main characters were mis-cast. The books are incredibly popular here but the movies only made it to the art house circuit so it's no surprise that the remade it. At least they hired a good director. It's not like they did a John Woo version.

Surprisingly, it does a very good job. Great direction by Fincher in my opinion. I have read the book and the movie keeps up an excellent pace. I enjoyed the score from Reznor and Ross. Overall, highly recommended!

Was absolutely pissed that america decided it was a great idea to release their own rebrand for profit off of a movie whose original was only made two fucking years ago. Way to go assholes, you win the plagiarist award for the year. Great movie though, the original was. Also, Trent Reznor doing the score on the new one? Interesting.

I felt the same initially when I heard about the american remake but there is absolutely no doubt that this remake blows the original film out of the water in every way.

I highly recommend going to see this film, for one thing it's much more faithful to the book than the Swedish series was.

I was going to go see it, but somehow ended up sitting in the new Sherlock Holmes going "uhh... how did this happen?" in my head. Next time I'll go check it out for sure, mainly because of the Reznor & Ross soundtrack though to be honest.

My wife and I saw it during the holiday break and both enjoyed the 2011 version quite a bit. While both of us really liked the original Swedish version, with subtitles, I really liked the visual look Fincher gave it and enjoyed the Reznor/Ross soundtrack so much that I bought the 3 disc set (love the track "Oraculum"). I recently finally finished of the whole Millennium Trilogy and I'm looking forward to them doing American versions of the next two books as well.

It's not out here yet in Australia, but I'll be seeing it when it does come out. I can understand people not liking it because its a 'remake', but really, from what I've seen it doesn't compare at all to most Hollywood remakes ("Let the right one in" -> "Let me in", "REC" -> "forget the name"). Both films are based on a book. The American one is not based on the Swedish one. That's the main difference. Plus they've got kickass actors, an awesome director and a really fucking good soundtrack behind it, I've got high hopes for the US one. And yes I've seen the Swedish ones.

Saw the OG, it was alright. Never read the books. I was highly disappointed with the girls looks. Fugly. Shame, I like dragon tattoos on hot chicks.
She was never meant to be attractive, in fact in the books she tried to make herself unattractive. I'd be seriously disappointed if the girl was smoking hot.

Saw the original trilogy as well as the remake. I liked them all. Part 2 was a little meh though.
Btw did they use the same actor from the original for the villain? They look very alike. Kinda cool if it is. Shows how great swedes are at english hehe

Edit: Looks like it is. God damnit people, learn to read subtitles so you don't have to make your own version of every decent non-english film

Reading subtitles is like using the metric system. It's for communist.

And hearing impaired people too now that I think about it. Well I will forgive the deaf people.

Yes, it's two movies based off the same book; but the 2011 version is not a remake of the swedish film adaptation in anyway. It comes down to two different directors doing their own presentation on a book. That said, fan of the original trilogy, but the 2011 version felt more like the experience reading the book than the original film release.

:tickled:

I really had no desire to see this movie what-so-ever, but this thread has given me hope that it might actually be interesting. I'll have to check it out :p

FWIW, The Devil Inside was better than I thought it'd be.

Like most of you I would think that a Hollywood remake of a good foreign movie would be a horrible idea, and 9 out of 10 times it is, but there are exceptions especially when a world class director is involved. For example there's "The Departed" by Martin Scorsese (remake of the movie "Infernal affairs") and "Insomnia" by Christopher Nolan (Remake of a swedish film by the same name) which personally I liked both better than the originals, so I'll reserve judgement until I've seen the movie.

Also, I thought the the original millennium trilogy movies were good, but not that good that I would consider a remake a sacrilege or something. They were good mainly because of the quality of the books they were based on. Now, movies like OldBoy (for which there were rumors of a Hollywood remake) would be a terrible idea to remake because they're perfect as they are.

I saw it last night with the Girlfriend, it's better than the original adaptation by a long way and is more accurate with the book in my opinion. It got really dark in places, and did a good job of creating the suspense and shock the book had too.

I'd recommend for people to go and see it.
