The Godfather

No doubt, that is a tragic and sad scene. Fredo, killed by his own brother...

"Taking care of me!? Taking care of me!? Your my little brother and you're taking care of me!?"

"That's the way pop wanted it."

"But that's not the way that I wanted it!"

That's one of the most moving scenes... it's absolutely phenomenal. You just feel for Fredo so much in that scene. Even though he's weak and helpless he still has feelings.... Incredible stuff.

What a scene...a great scene...a spectacular heart moving gut wrenching scene...

When Michael tells him, "You are not my brother, you are nothing to me anymore..."

And as Michael walks out of the room, Fredo says in a brotherly and pleading way, "Mikey!"

Did I mention that is a powerful scene? What a great acting performance by John Cazalle (Fredo), Pacino too.

I just read today that two magazines got a panel of critics and directors to choose the best ever film. They both chose the same film for #1 (can't remember the name of it), but the directors picked The Godfather parts I & II as the second best film of all time.

Also, I love the ending scene of part two, just the look on Michael's face as the camera zooms away... quite chilling.

And here's another question: If you were Mike, would you have had Fredo killed?

The Godfather Triliogy if fucking awesome...if you would like to read another great book or two of Mr Puzo check out The Last Don or the Pilgrims...both very good books but nothing by him is as great as The Godfather!!!!

Okay, even though this thread has died, I wanted to tell you what my other favourite scene is:

When Kay comes back to visit her children (after Kay and Michael have split up) and Michael comes in when they are saying goodbye. He stands there at the door, and it's as if he's wondering whether to let her stay and say goodbye + stuff. The first time I saw it I thought he was going to let her in, but then after a few seconds he just shuts the door. That was absolutely amazing.

The number one film was Citizen Kane, but who can stand these incessant lists- although this one does have the most merit. As for the first post- I agree Mario Puzo was not a very good writer at all- I read a non godfather book- as well as his Godfather book , and i was amazed at how bad they were. This is one of the few cases in which a film is much better than the book.

I felt that some of his writing (in the Godfather) was good, but he just lapsed into really amateurish, childish writing from time to time. Plus the book doesn't have Al Pacino in it. :D
