The Leper Affinity

hopeless? im gonna assume u dont mean it sounds poorly played or shit?

but yeh that part just always feels like its about to become really powerful or something but it never does, it just keep tempting u and bringing your hopes up before ripping your heart out with every chord change, and just leaves me feeling empty, and calm.

its brilliant

This solo just doesn't want you to take off with it, but wants you to fade away together

And yet another brilliant Opeth masterpiece

No! Heavens no! Not poorly played! I just meant that it gives this sense of utter hopelessness. Like all is lost, then it tapers off and Bleak comes on and it just grooves (at the beginning). If you're in a fragile emotional state that's the kind of thing that can make you cry.

Yes, it is beautiful, brilliant, and terrible all at the same time. Terrible because it can bring up so much emotion and sometimes that's not a good thing.

A better question would be "How can one piano solo, not to complicated either, have so much feeling?"

Who cares if it's not meant to be meaningful? It's probably not. What matters in all music is how you feel when you hear it. What YOU see in it, not what is supposed to be there.

I couldn't say this better.

To me, this kind of portrays a bleak feeling, as so obviously titled in the next track. It seems to quitely draw you in to a sense of despair or loss before plunging into Bleak. Kind of a fitting intro to Track 2 really...

Thats one thing I like about BWP as an album...it seems to bring you through in various waves of despair then hope more subtley than perhpas some of their older albums.
