The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe

Does anyone else wish they'd make films for the Lloyd Alexander series? I know Disney made "The Black Cauldron" back in the day, but man, those books kicked ass when I was about 8 or 9 and would probably transfer well into live action shite.

Let's see if I can name them...

The Book of Three
The Black Cauldron
The Castle of Llyr
Taran Wanderer
The High King

Oh, and "Sword of Shannara" would be AWESOME. Seriously, that's the best fantasy book behind LoTR. The first couple in the Terry Goodkind and Robert Jordan series would be cool as flicks, but they don't deserve to have their books adapted into the movies until they LEARN WHEN TO STOP PILFERING THE WORLD WITH THEIR REDUNDANT CRAP! END YOUR DAMN STORIES FOR FUCK'S SAKE!

Quoted for Fucking Truth (esp. about the Shannara series, those books are fucking AWESOME).

Nothing really hidden about the Christian aspects to CS Lewis. Just a sign of the times for when they were written no doubt. If you yanks go to Barnes and Noble, they're all laid out on tables labelled "christian reading". The church is already saying this film is the next best thing to Passion of the Joo.

-Witch casts a spell to make it winter forever, but Christmas never comes.
-Father Christmas arrives on his sleigh (with fucking jingle bells) to give Peter, Susan, and Lucy their xmas pressies (weapons, healing potions etc.)
-Edmund = Judas
-Aslan = Jesus

Resurrection, sacrifice for Edmund's sins, the final battle, etc. etc

And yep, LotR had a bunch of christian themes too, but not quite as overt. If The Hobbit was written for Tolkien's 12 year old daughter, then CS Lewis books are aimed at the 7 year old market for sure.

Apparently they've tried to make the movie a little more adult oriented.

Either way, both *great* stories. I'd like to see the films just to see how they've got Mr and Mrs Beaver (haha) done up. The final battle sequence should be incredible just due to the vast array of characters/beasts.

np - Extol. :loco:

ive also heard churches are showing the latest anti-walmart movie. cant remember what its called but im very surprised this is showing in churches. i expected the exact opposite.

yeah so i re-read them shitz, originally read them in like 1989.

pretty cool. Harry Potter is better. in other meaningless and unfounded comparisons, Slayer > Robert Johnson

who the fuck writes a series that is ANTI some other series? sounds lame

hmm, i read this book for school in grade 3, liked it then. grade 4 moved on to Lord of the Rings, probably never looked back but should have.

nadrian, do you like the HP movies too? i never bothered with the books, but i've seen the movies 'cause my friends or sister made me

i hear the new one is even better. they seemed to get better every time up to this point. anyone seen it yet?

FUCK ITS COLD IN HERE. YOU'D THINK IT WAS A CANADIAN WINTER OR SOMETHING

I've heard very good things about this newest installment; for starters, it's the first one with a PG-13 rating, and while that may not mean much to most of us here, it's reflective of the overall darker nature of the book. From what I'm told. :loco:

yeah we had a wonderous cold air inversion last week. was warmer on top of the ski hills than down here. Plus we had permanent fog, not ocean fog thick, but pretty damn thick. (about 25 feet or so visibility).

no boobs though? :erk:

yeah the HP movies are fucking great. haven't seen the new one yet, but i will probably real soon. with my mom of course, since i have to fulfill the "i'm a 26 year old dork" prophecy in its entirety. :loco:

the books (and therefore movies, since they follow closely along) get progressively darker, and it's done to great effect. the movies are second only to Lord of the Rings from the past many years, at least for this particular style.

I thought the LotR movies to be pretty crappy, except the first one, which ruled. the first one was my favourite of the books also. I usually prefer the part of the story where things are getting going, there's more development and radical change.

plus, the dialogue in the LotR movies was so fucking gratingly corny at times it made me shiver. J.R.R. Tolkein the script-writers certainly were not.

In hindsight, I think the first LotR movie is the best. Particulary from when the fellowship come together at Rivendell onwards....right through to the mines of moria and the end battle sequence on the riverbank.

In fact, call me nuts, but I think the end battle in Fellowship is better than the end battles in Two Towers or Return of the King. I like the close up hand to hand / swordplay combat, and the overhead camera work among the ruins is stunning.

Re: CS Lewis. I've started reading the next book (The Boy and his Horse) and it is pants by comparison. Longwinded, doesn't ever get anywhere, and girly gay. No wonder he's only known for The Lion and The Bitch in the Closet.

He's even done some Sci Fi trilogy with one installment called "Out of the Silent Planet", and all I can say is, if the Iron Maiden song sucks then the book has to suck harder. [/nazilogic]

two towers > fellowship > RoTK.

I'd like fellowship more, but my favouritestestnessest character ever made (Tom Bombadil) got jewed out of a role. So it's forever marred.
