Good breakdown. For me, God emperor is the best besides the first. I really like Leto's diaglogue (being an immortal of sorts) and his interation with the many duncan idaho's. His descriptions of fish speakers and his civlization is interesting. Yes it's slow, but has some great idea's. I agree though heretics is very good as well. I wonder if sci-fri will continue the series, the first two were pretty good i thought. I would rank the books as:J. said:i'll prolly read the CS Lweis series some time. a dude at work is a Potter nerd and s begging me to read those books.
the original 6 Dune books are great. let me break it down for you:
originals:
Dune - classic.
Dune Messiah - very short and semi-boring. lots of politics with lots of action towards the end
Children of Dune - pretty damn good with lots of action
God Emperor of Dune - the worst of the series. all talk, very little action
Heretics of Dune - second best in the series. a grand epic
Chapterhouse: Dune - a continuation of Heretics and just as good
The original six are basically about a government, politics, and religion with action. The original book can actually be seen as a metaphor for the current governments (planets) trying to gain control of oil (spice).
The six prequels from Herbert's son read more like move scripts, and while very entertaining, don't have near the depth and heart of the originals.
