The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe

i'll prolly read the CS Lweis series some time. a dude at work is a Potter nerd and s begging me to read those books.

the original 6 Dune books are great. let me break it down for you:

originals:

Dune - classic.
Dune Messiah - very short and semi-boring. lots of politics with lots of action towards the end
Children of Dune - pretty damn good with lots of action
God Emperor of Dune - the worst of the series. all talk, very little action
Heretics of Dune - second best in the series. a grand epic
Chapterhouse: Dune - a continuation of Heretics and just as good

The original six are basically about a government, politics, and religion with action. The original book can actually be seen as a metaphor for the current governments (planets) trying to gain control of oil (spice).

The six prequels from Herbert's son read more like move scripts, and while very entertaining, don't have near the depth and heart of the originals.
Good breakdown. For me, God emperor is the best besides the first. I really like Leto's diaglogue (being an immortal of sorts) and his interation with the many duncan idaho's. His descriptions of fish speakers and his civlization is interesting. Yes it's slow, but has some great idea's. I agree though heretics is very good as well. I wonder if sci-fri will continue the series, the first two were pretty good i thought. I would rank the books as:

dune
god emperor
heretics
chapterhouse
children of dune
dune messiah

God Emperor felt like a chore to get through to get to the better books. Just not a lot happened. His GOlden Path was cool and all, but lets face it, the Golden Path was basically a dumming down of civilzation so when he dies, humanity will want to expand and survive.

I think the last two are fantastics reads. The Honored Matres are just so badass of an enemy for the Bene Gesserit. Supposedly, Herbert was going to take the Dune series even further and introduce an even more dangerous enemy than the Honored Matres, but as you know, he died prematurely.

But in one of the prequels, one of the Guild Heighliners ends up in unexplored space and the navigator senses a dangerous enemy. This might be where Herbert was going to head with the other books, but oh well.

Dune
Heretics
Chapterhouse
Children
Dune Messiah
God Emperor

Yeah, the prequel guys are writing the seventh Dune book and it's due out in a couple years so we'll see what the Honored Matres were running from. I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be human-animal hybrids like the Futars but the general consensus seems to be more thinking machines, which would blooooooooooow.

haha holy shit, the thinking machine prequels were TERRIBLE!!!

those prequels were kinda like the Star Wars prequels in that it seemed civilization was more technically advanced in the past than in the future.

remember in The Battle of Corrin where Omnius shot into space to escape? maybe he found a new planet or something. yeah, that would suck.

I'll assume none of you bothered to watch it. Decent it are, but lack of blood and too much christian reference.

are the majority of these people who go watch L,W,WR not familiar with the book and not know that CS Lewis was a Christian author?

seriously, what are they expecting?

I'll rent it from netflix..

.. FOR THE LORD!
