If one album is better than another, and they're BOTH good then ok, fair enough. So what I don't get is how one *great* album is "BY FAR" better than another *great* album....or how one *great* band "FUCKING CRUSHES" another *great* band.
Extremes and absolutes are so fun! I mean Rust in Peace is obviously better than Countdown to Extinction by AT LEAST 18,000 FUCKING MILES, but that doesn't mean RiP = 10/10 and CtE = 9/10.

WTF I was supposed to hit reply 20 minutes ago, this window was still open. :zombie:

Yeah sorry I didn't post right when I placed my bid. Although when the auction ends I'll be camping in the middle of nowhere so feel free to bid. You could hornswoggle me and I wouldn't even know it! :Spin:

I'm one of those assholes who doesn't bid until the last minute or so. (Don't worry NAD, I have no interest in that CD)

^^ I love last-minute-bidding. Dunno why everyone does it.

Except when that Empyrium wooden box demo went from like 20 bucks to $96 in the last few minutes. That sucked.

I was supposed to see TLWSF last summer, but they pulled out of Tidal Wave Festival at the last minute. Bastards. Oh well, I still got to see Hirax and Heathen for free, so I'm not complaining.

Wait, I am. Funny thing about that.

Anywho, Slough Feg rules. They're sorta like the modern Manilla Road–in the same basic genre musically, and with a similar cult following. I was just checking out Down Among the Deadmen today, and it's quite nearly as awesome as Twilight of the Idols.

(It just occured to me that that MR comparison may have already been made. I didn't read the whole thread.)

I think I just realized the greatest Slough Feg song ever last night, driving my car across the 275 causeway into Tampa, surrounded by the blue water in the bay.......

"Addendum Galactus"

Track #12, the final track on Traveller.....holy shit!!! *eyes pop out of head*

Slough Feg are more musically connected to Brocas Helm
Slough Feg and Manilla Road have no similar thing on their music, except from the fact that they are both epic, and i cant understand the "modern MR" thing Pyrus said. And the thing about Brocas Helm Iron Maiden and Thin Lizzy.

It's really quite remarkable at times when you hear BH - you can totally see where Scalzi got his singing style from Bob Wright (not in vocal pattern, but in delivery). They are obviously the biggest influence.

Maiden and Thin Lizzy I just assume inspired BH, and so it's natural that those elements flow through....

P.S. I noticed recently that Hansi Kursch patterns his vocal delivery after Ian Anderson of 'Tull quite a bit.

Anyway what i was saying is that Slough Feg and Manilla Road have no similar thing on their music, except from the fact that they are both epic, and i cant understand the "modern MR" thing Pyrus said. And the thing about Brocas Helm Iron Maiden and Thin Lizzy.

Bump.

Just downloaded this off the site. I had no idea of the HoM connection, until listening to the MP3s JK provided. Half way through track one, it was obvious these guys shared a singer and a lyricist. No wonder JK is so high on these guys.

So, is Traveller their best CD?

Zod

Actually, I would be high high on Slough Feg regardless of the HoM connection. Indeed, there are some people here that like SF more than HoM. Slough Feg are the embodiment of all that is metal, so as a metal fan, it's pretty hard to dislike them!

Traveller is their latest album, and was written in a year. It is different in that it's a 'science fiction' concept album based on an old RPG game, as opposed to their earlier celtic fascinations. (Yes, they are beer drinking geeks that can laugh at themselves). It has my fave song, "Addendum Galactus" -> YOU MUST CRANK THIS BABY.

My favourite album overal is probably Down Among the Deadmen. It still has some of their celtic/highland/european influences, and feels well thought out and rather raw. The songs were written over a longer period of time so it sounds quite varied (aka not a concept album).

They have a new one coming out this March. I am urinating in glee as I type.
