The Mars Volta - Amputechture

I bet I could just listen to Fragile by Yes and Larks Tongue by King Crimson in unison and it would sound like a Mars Volta album, only better.

So yeah, I still think that France The Mute is a complete masterpiece, and De-loused in the Comatorium is a VERY good album. Amputechture never clicked with me, I could never make it more than 20 minutes in without getting annoyed. The structures just didn't work for me, the only song I even enjoyed was that one poppy sounding one with the repeated 3 chord riff. Perhaps John Frusciante and Flea were more involved with the other albums than the credits lead one to believe.

So then I saw them live. What. The. FUCK. Awful! Awful awful awful! AWFUL! We walked out early. Straight fucking chaos with no coherency. Turned my favorite song (opener from Frances) into shit because the drummer wouldn't fucking STOP playing for 2 seconds to let anything breathe. Best part of the night was taking an uncomfortable too-much-tater-salad dump in the lower level of a nice theatre in a shitty area.
and this is why RC has turned into shit....
No you fucking moron, it's the LACK of being open to bands like this that killed (much of) RC. You're an idiot.

Shit. I still haven't heard this properly. "Frances..." is a classic already, for me, perfect album. I'm suprised with what you say about their live show...all i've heard about them is that they smash everything (in a good way)

In theory, it probably should've been my cup o' tea. But it was just too much. It was like watching a 3rd rate acid jazz band, and I can't even stomach first rate acid jazz for more than a few minutes.
