Interesting review Lurch, I totally agree with you on the vocals. I have never understood why they stick with that awful death metal grunting when they have this egyptian motif. One would think chanting and spoken word would work much better, and be easy to do.

Nephren-ka has some pretty killer chanting. Sounds like some crazy Nigubian princess going hogwild on an oversized Cockus Africanus.

Agreed, the vocals are their biggest weakness and I hope they don't go brutal as often on their new one, I want to see them build more on the atmospheric parts of the Darkened Shrines suite, or incorporate more passages like the ones on Karl's solo album.
