The old Metallica is back?

i would like to see Andy working with Metallica.

Same here... although would Andy like to work with Metallica!?

(not sure he'd be willing to answer that one publically)

I really couldn't care less what they do, and neither should all of you people arguing. :)

But I do care – they’ve been one of my favourite bands for nearly 15 years and are directly or indirectly responsible for influencing every metal band on the planet! I don’t want them to turn into a joke.

I don´t think that "the old Metallica is back". Actually I don´t even think that there is an "old Metallica". I mean their only albums that are somewhat close are Ride The Lightning / Master Of Puppets and Load/ReLoad. And I must say that I like´em all and will probably like the new one. Don´t care if it sounds like The Offspring.

Hmmm, Im not saying every album should be the same, I just think up to a certain quality, which St Anger certainly wasn't. Adam from killswitch said it best when he said it should have been called St an album. Tuning properly would have helped (sure they have one of those little gizmos somewhere). I tell you what makes a huge difference tho and thats James doing the rhythms.... oh and lyrics oh and actually rehearsing the songs before recording and decent structures and.... It looks a good vibe on that video tho so I'm hopeful, if I was on the session I would have a yodeling ban. Fingers crossed eh! I also liked load and re load but I think it got spread too thin, they could have had an album of black album quality had things been refined (and left the country channel off during the sessions)

I was the biggest Metallica fan ever, ever, ever. Then they started making money, stopped having to struggle to pay their bills, bought a few boats and nice cars, became popular and decided to hang the whole "grungy bad-azz metal band" thing up and call it a day. Then they got the idea that since they really didn't have to work anymore they would become a Lenny Kravitz cover band. That joke made them even more money so they did that a few times for a lark.

Now that they are older, multi-millionares and lazy they want to play aggressive music again like when they were young and hungry? No chance. I really think that when any heavy band no longer has to worry about paying their rent they loose their passion for being pissed. I was thinking about this the other day when this came into my head:

Motorbreath is how I live my life
I can't take it any other way
Motorbreath the sigh of living fast
It is going to take your breath away

Yeah, like James and the boys can relate to that anymore. Ya think that James can write a song like "Damage Inc" or "Dyers Eve" while sitting by the pool at his big trophy home? Yeah, me either.

Sorry, this is total BS. Anyone can write songs of that aggression level (not necessarily that caliber) at any day ... it's a question of wanting to do it for a reason (emotional or otherwise).

Okay guys I am a little late to this one, it seems to be as if metallica are stagnating and cannot really move on.

I think Kirk needs to go back and have lessons with Satch it might inspire him to write some more interesting solos.

James needs to be made to go for it and stop playing the Cuntree!!

The anger originally was the quintessence of early Metallica, so it makes sense they lifted it to "holy status".
Unfortunately not every prayer is heard.
Furthermore I also think that the financial aspect of their success is not really helpful to keep this anger up.
Nevertheless I think it should be possible for them to make a good album with the right attitude, so I will (try to) listen without prejudice.

Just got a chance to check out that clip and it wasn't as crappy as I anticipated. It's hard to judge though if the album will be any good or not. One thing for sure is the production will be better. For a lot of us on here Metallica really had a huge impact. For myself, Master of Puppets got me into metal in '86. I still love everything up to the Black album and I even dug select songs from Load/Reload. I don't expect to hear "Ride the Puppet for All" but I would like to hear conviction in their music again. St Anger was a worthless experiment IMO and just pissed off a lot of people. I can still get all fired up in conversation about it. The thing that kills me the most about whatever they will do is the lack of enthusiam I hear in James' voice. I just want something of quality from them and I guess we'll find out soon enough!

I think people need to give James voice a fuckin break. The dude's pretty old..
Most players his age have fat ugly wives and ugly ungrateful kids, and or a really bad reality show.

And no bringing up DIO because we all know Dio is an elf that will live to be 600 anyway.

nah your not alone.... i love the simple bass snare bass snare shit its got groove to it.

Lemmy, Halford, Chuck Billy.

"Old" guys, that sound perfect.

Because they have a passion for music, not for money. Granted, Lemmy's voice sounds more gravely than a busted up broken highway. But I hold pretty much any singer to the Halford standard.

I agree. Most of Metallica's early stuff was HEAVYILY politically based. And with the way the world is now, who's to say they can't write new material based on that. Politics can piss anyone off, rich or poor. I hope there are less songs about suped-up hotrods (Fuel) on this.

actually i remember fuel being about drug addiction. i cant remember from where or who i heard it but they expained and it made a lot of sense.
