yes there is a lot of bullshit on this forum, but there is another big pile of needless rambling on here about that bullshit ...

Well there's really only so much you can say about opeth. So when new people come and say stuff that older members already talked about, the old members give them shit. Then the new members try to defend themselves and it only gets worse. Then someone like samsara refers them to teh FAQ, which is a pretty boring way to experience a band, just by reading a bunch of stuff in list format. So there really should be like a new members and an old member section. So that if youre new and opeth is new and exciting to you, and you dont know who melinda is, or anything else of that nature, you can discuss it with nubile opeth fans. But if youre an older member, you definitely know who you are, and you go to the old member section and discuss stuff that way. The Off-topic was kind of a solution to this, but even that gets cluttered.

OR... the older members could not be such dicks.... and the members in general could spam less. The FAQ is just that... and way to remedy the noob question dilema and set a foundation for deeper discussion. Most Opeth fans are music freaks in general so there is lots of levity in the current sub. It's not that complicated guys... really.
Well I agree in a perfect world, we could just say "stop being dicks", but if you watch the news or are generally aware of human nature that doesn't really work. I was just offering a suggestion and I realize that a forum split like that won't happen. I also realize that even if it were to happen it wouldnt completely irradicate the spam, though i do think it would do a decent amount of good.

Well first... I appreciate the suggestion and I'm not trying to insult you.
Second: I understand that human nature is not what I would like it to be but I still like to aim high. I take more of a "hope for the best but expect the worst" kind of view I guess...
Third: I've had countless discussions with the powers that be regarding the best set up for the forum and this current configuration seems to be the best... believe me getting another sub created just for the non Opeth music chat was quite an undertaking but that combined with my dusting off the ban stick immediately when needed has improved the overall vibe of this place with only a couple of recent examples... but thanks again for your suggestion and your contributions that help make this place better.

I think the current system is working well enough. I mean, yeah, there are shit threads where people just fight but there's also good threads where people have great discussions about interesting topics. That said, the fighting, in moderation can be almost as entertaining as a good thread.
