I just spent like 3 hours doing this, so I hope some people dig it. It's a collage of my prints, with a lot of post-editing and experimentation. Kind of a surreal/psychological horror feel to it, I think.

That's crazy. The symmetry and texture gives it this sort of unique alien biotech look -- the top/center looks like some kind of goat-mecha skull with a vaguely vaginal mouth-opening. And a glowing pyramid-halo. The entire thing is full of interesting things to look at, though.

Fucking cool, man.

Yeah, I'm REALLY happy with how it came out. Basically, what happened was I made a first one and was doing well, then accidentally did not save it and Photoshop decided to suck and not be able to get it back (I went beyond 20 steps of "history" in the program, which is the preset point-of-no-return, and I couldn't get my composition back). So, using the small JPEG I took of the original, I reassembled the original "cathedral" image how you see it here...even weirder and more surreal than the original...compare:

Cool, but not on the same level of disturbing.

And yeah I totally agree about it having this weird biotech/horror/alien/surreal look, and the vaginal mouth opening was totally intentional actually. The entire middle section, to me, brings to mind some anonymous "cosmic horror" boss in some old-school Phantasy Star-esque RPG...you know, one of those fucking things that's hiding behind the original "bad guy" you had to fight...so, now you're fucking with an Elder God for some reason. I definitely had that in mind. A lot of "subconscious" imagery was also created just due to symmetry and the brain trying to find closure and make sense of what are essentially random forms...to me, the bottom middle looks like a spacecraft-cockpit area, with a vaguely human figure inside, hands in the "God have mercy!" gesture...love it. Definitely (one of if not) THE coolest thing I've ever done in any genre.

edit: oh, also, the color scheme...total accident, but I learned something awesome from this: drab, olive-y green + muted purple = incredible combination. Just check out what's going on, color-wise, right below the vagina-area.

I see what you mean about the color mixture! Yeah, this is awesome, man.

Let's get it up here for the new page. ;)

What strikes me the most is the very top of that print, where there is a shiny bright light..is it just me or does it look like some sort of dark priest in a hood? Good stuff btw, bottom half reminds me of my car accident!

That's really awesome, I think I'll use it as my desktop wallpaper.

The top part was kind of made to resemble the "holy" ironic/mocking part of the work, so yeah, that works well. The light/halo was intentional.

Vegard: I have a larger res one...2000x2000. Click the small image to get the big one, then right click and Save Image As. It's free to download and use for wallpapers and stuff, so thanks for the props!

I may actually wallpaper that for a while. I enjoy it. It looks like it'd be something cool to flash as a 'precursor' of sorts in a good psychological thriller of some sort.

vee-vee: cool shit. Very different from other stuff you've posted here. You should explore that style more, methinks - though I suggest less symmetry/repetition (or at least making it far less obvious), as it makes the piece feel pretty artificial (in a bad way) and gives me the impression that only 1/2-1/3 of it is actually worth looking at.

Thanks guys!

Grant: I think I will, actually. The idea of doing it less symmetrically will definitely compromise the "constructivist"/surreal horror/almost "figure"-like quality of it (most figures/creatures are symmetrical, after all). And, to be fair, I tried to marginally reduce the "synthetic" feel by making subtle differences between the left and right with shadows, tattered parts, etc.

I'm pretty sure you can still make it 'figure-like' without it being so symmetrical that it's still obvious you based it off a mirrored picture originally. Symmetry exists in all sorts of animals, monsters, robots, and other 'figures' in art. The trick is just to alter the little details of the picture as opposed to the basic 'outline' of the overall figure. Another (simpler) option is to have a lighting/shadow effect that is prominent on one side of the picture but not the other, or to slowly shift some colors/textures from one side to the other. Since your 'figure' is kind of robot-like, maybe you could even look up some existing robot art for ideas. :) Just throwing out some thoughts.

I'm going to disagree a bit with vihris on this one a little. I think the symmetrical, almost fake look does it justice. It gives this vibe of something to unreal to be real, yet still fleshy enough to be evil and plausible.

If it were cleaned up just a tad more, I would even say it's album cover worthy.
