The pics thread

yes, hated it. terribly dirty and a giant tourist trap. the louvre and disneyland were the only 2 things i liked. all the cathedrals were a dissapointment, they arent kept up well. and the conciergerie... dont get me started on that waste of money and space

I loved it all six times. Everything about that city is interesting
and amazing. Has long as you know where to go it can be a great place.

Considering the centuries of warfare (WW2 especially) they had gone through and the tireless restorations they've managed, I'd say they've done a good job "keeping them up". Restoration funds are hard to come by. I went to Reims Cathedral this summer and about half the windows were plain because recreating the stained glass isn't a priority for taxpayers.

And pollution tends to wear down the finer details like reliefs and gargoyles.

exterior condition is one thing, but the interiors were dissapointing. the first one i went to, the paintings were peeling off the wall (i guess they were painted onto canvas and applied to the wall). saint chapelle was just plain inside, even though the windows were nice. and notre dame had the same problem as the first one, though not as bad. ive got one picture of the first one that tells the tale perfectly. i'll post it eventually.

all i gotta say is st. vitus > notre dame. that place was just amazing

Yeah I went to St. Vitus' this summer and it's one of the better cathedrals in Europe. Cologne Cathedral in Germany is also up there.

However, you must understand that cathedrals such as Reims and Notre Dame de Paris are pure gothic cathedrals, built with (interior) simplicity in mind, rather than the fancier later cathedrals like St. Vitus.

I figured I'd just tease my hair just to see how it would look. I'm only teasing it again on my school's 80s day.
