It's the Humber fucking Bridge. I'm from Kingston Upon Hull.
 
I've never seen it before. She's some heathen that hasn't seen the humber bridge and thinks it's an american one.

I have a hard time believing that's more efficient than just building a normal bridge and driving whatever you need to over it. Maybe it's better for loading cargo ships, though.

Pretty sure it's because REALLY BIG SHIPS (i felt the need for caps aha) used to pass through there and it was like, less effort than one of those uppy-downy bridges.
(Yes, it's 1am and I've no coffee or sleep for maybe 26 hours so please don't judge me on the uppy-downy adjectives.)
